Processor Speed 1GHz
Available Hard Drive space
20GB
Memory 512MB
Operating System Microsoft Windows® XP SP2,
Microsoft Server 2003 SP1, or Microsoft Server 2008

INSTALLATION GUIDE 2 of 11
IMPORTANT: If .NET Framework 2.0 is currently installed on the system and you experience a problem during the MS-SQL Express installation, you might need to manually uninstall .NET Framework 2.0 first before installing SQL Express. If you do uninstall .NET Framework 2.0, it will be reinstalled during the SQL Express installation.
Installing MS-SQL Express
1. Obtain the file, SDMExpress_2_4_1_14.zip,
and unzip it into the C:\sdmexpress
directory.
2. In the C:\sdmexpress directory, double-click
on the file, InstallMSSQL.exe, to begin the installation process. The following welcome screen appears.

3. Click Next to continue. The following screen appears.
Figure 3. Completing the Install MS-SQL Express Setup screen
4. If this is a new MS-SQL Express installation, ensure that all the check boxes are checked,
except as explained in the next step concerning .NET Framework 2.0.
5. Do one of the following:
If .NET Framework 2.0 is not installed, check Launch Install .NET 2.0 Framework, and click Finish. A message box (Figure 4) appears showing files that are being extracted. Proceed to Step 6.
If .NET Framework 2.0 is already installed, uncheck Launch Install .NET 2.0 Framework, and click Finish. A message box (Figure 4) appears showing files that are being extracted. Proceed to Step 11 on page 3.
Note: If .NET Framework 2.0 currently exists on your system, it might cause the installer to not work properly. If you encounter an installer problem, manually uninstall .NET Framework 2.0, then when Figure 3 appears during installation, ensure Launch Install .NET 2.0 Framework is also checked.

Installing Smart Device Manager
If a previous installation of SDM exists, be sure to stop and uninstall it. After SDM is uninstalled,
delete the C:\SDM directory.
If an SDM database was previously installed with any brand of SQL server, the following files will
exist in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft
SQL Server\MSSQL(.n)\MSSQL\Data directory
and should be deleted before beginning the SDM installation:
SDMDatabase.mdf
SDMDatabase_log.ldf

INSTALLATION GUIDE 5 of 11
Note: The SDM application must be installed on a computer connected to the same network as the smart devices (for example: LDM, UltraLink
®).
IMPORTANT: If the locale setting of the server on which the SDM is loaded is not US-English or not MM/DD/YYYY for date format, please contact [email protected] for instructions. There is a known limitation when using the SDM on a server whose locale or date format is something other than US-English. For further information, please refer to the “Known Issues” section of the SDM 2.5 Release Notes.
To start the SDM installation, do the following:
1. In the C:\sdmexpress directory, locate and
double-click on the file, SDMExpress.exe. The installation welcome screen appears.

User Configuration
Add Users, Change Passwords
If there are users that will have limited access (for example, no Administrator access), then these additional users must be added as Normal users. Refer to the CBC-4020/4030/405X Series Smart Device Manager 2.5 Administrator’s Guide for detailed information.
Group Level Configuration
Create Appropriate Number of Group Levels
Figure 29. Group Levels Editor dialog with Region Added
By default, the SDM is configured with three group levels: Corporate, Division, and Store. These levels can be renamed, and additional levels can be configured. However, in general, these three levels are sufficient.
Group Configuration
From Tree, Configure All Groups (Divisions, Stores, etc.)
Once group levels have been set, you should configure all divisions under the corporate node and all stores under division nodes.
Auto-Discover Will Automatically Add Devices. If Not, Configure Devices
If any devices are discovered that are not associated with a store in the hierarchy tree, the devices will be assigned as orphans. Refer to the CBC-4020/4030/405X Series Smart Device Manager 2.5 Administrator’s Guide for instructions to assign orphans to the appropriate store.

Alarm Data Server Configuration
Figure 30. External Alarm Data Server – Edit screen
To export data collected from smart devices, an alarm data server must be configured. Refer to the CBC-4020/4030/405X Series Smart Device Manager 2.5 Administrator’s Guide for detailed instructions.
Note: If SMTP is selected in the Address/Site field, ensure that the E-Mail alert system SMTP server and port assignment have been designated.
Schedule Setup
Configure a Device Data Upload Schedule With All Devices
To extract data from smart devices on a regular basis, a scheduled task must be created. In the Schedule Type field, ensure Device Data Upload is selected.
Note: Setting the Frequency field to Daily is recommended as is setting the upload Start Date and Time fields to a date/time when the network is usually not busy.
Figure 31. Schedule – New Device Data Upload dialog
Configure a Device Data Export With An Alarm Data Server (Figure 32)
To extract data from the SDM database and send it to the alarm data server, select Device Data Export in the Schedule Type field. Also, select a Start Time that is at least 30 minutes after the scheduled device data upload time. The frequency of this scheduled task should coincide with the frequency of the device data upload task.

Creation and Assignment of Default Configuration Settings
Figure 33. Device Settings dialog
Generally, there is a set of configuration variables that is the same across all smart devices attached to the SDM (Figure 33). These settings should be included in a default configuration (Figure 34) and then assigned to the various types of smart devices that will be attached to the SDM.
Figure 34. Assign Default Configuration Settings dialog
E-Mail Alert Scheduling
Figure 35. Setup Alert dialog
E-Mail alerts can be advantageous, especially for the period after the initial installation of the SDM. Depending on the smart devices being used and the features installed, many of the items in the Exceptions section of the Setup Alert dialog box could be selected (Figure 35). Once an E-Mail alert has been configured, it should be scheduled on a daily or weekly basis (Figure 36). A user could actually create multiple alerts and schedule them separately, allowing the user to schedule critical alerts on a daily basis and less critical alerts for weekly alerts.

INSTALLATION GUIDE 11 of 11
The following screens (Figure 37 and Figure 38) show examples of possible listings of scheduled tasks.
IMPORTANT: The daily pull task requires a Group to be assigned. This can be done by dragging a Group level from the device tree screen (see Figure 1 on page 1) to the Group/Device Description column of the Scheduled Tasks screen.
Both uploads and downloads require Group/Device descriptions to be defined.
