The display can be used for sampling, coupon distribution, premium item giveaways, etc.

- All four games of the Championship Rounds at Kansas City’s Sprint Center were nationally televised by ESPN. Three of the games aired on ESPN2 while the fourth was televised on ESPNU. Four of the Regional Round games were also nationally televised with one game on ESPN2 and three on ESPNU. The remaining four Regional Round games were televised locally in Kansas City, Milwaukee, and the Pacific Northwest.

- ESPN’s top analysts - Dick Vitale and Bob Knight - were assigned to work the Championship Round games in Kansas City.

- The event has featured five of the past seven national champions - Syracuse (2003), Florida (2006, 2007), Kansas (2008), and Duke (2010). In all, 27 teams that have participated in the O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic have gone on to compete in the NCAA Tournament.

- The O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic has boasted the highest neutral site attendance among all early-season college basketball tournaments in three of the last four years. In 2010, the Championship Rounds at Sprint Center averaged a nation’s best 18,663 fans over both nights.

- In the 10 years of its existence, the event has attracted nearly 900,000 college basketball fans.

- The Championship Rounds of the O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic have been held in Kansas City since the event’s inception. The last four years the Classic has been played at Sprint Center, the state-of-the-art arena that serves as the cornerstone of a redeveloped downtown Kansas City.

PRINCETON, N.J. - The schedule and national television coverage for the 10th annual O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic men's college basketball tournament have been completed. Defending National Champion Duke, along with Kansas State, Gonzaga, and Marquette will serve as the four Regional Round hosts for the event, matchups for which were previously announced. The tournament will begin with Regional Round action, November 12-18, with the four host schools advancing to the Championship Rounds at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo., on November 22-23. In the Championship Rounds' first semifinal game on Monday, November 22, Duke will meet Marquette at 7:30 PM EST, followed by Kansas State vs. Gonzaga. The winners will square off in the championship game on Tuesday, November 23, which will be preceded by the consolation game at 7:45 PM EST. The Oxford subregional will be held November 20-22 with Miami (Ohio) hosting Green Bay, IUPUI, and San Diego State. The Harrisonburg subregional will see James Madison entertaining Bucknell, Presbyterian, and Princeton from November 22-24. Each team will play three games in the subregional rounds. A total of eight games will be televised on the ESPN family of networks. ESPNU will televise the first game of the Manhattan Regional Rounds on November 12 when Kansas State hosts James Madison, as well as both games of the Durham Regional Rounds, November 14 (Princeton) and 16 (Miami, Ohio). ESPN2 will air the second game of the Spokane Regional Rounds when Gonzaga hosts San Diego State on November 16. ESPN2 will also televise both Championship Round semifinal doubleheaders on November 22 and the Championship game on November 23. The consolation game on November 23 will be televised on ESPNU. In the first of 24 games in the event, No. 3 Kansas State will host James Madison in the Manhattan Regional Round. Tip-off is set for 9:00pm (ET) and the game will air on ESPNU. The other three Regional Round openers will take place on Sunday, Nov. 14, highlighted by top-ranked Duke beginning defense of its national championship with a home game against Princeton at 5:00pm (ET) on ESPNU. Earlier in the day, No. 12 Gonzaga will host IUPUI at 4:00pm (ET) in a game that can be seen on KHQ and FSN Northwest. At 2:00pm, Marquette starts the day with a home affair against Bucknell. Duke, which won its fourth national championship in April, sits atop the poll, marking the fifth time since 1991-92 that Duke has been the coaches’ preseason favorite. The Blue Devils will be joined in Kansas City in the Championship Rounds of the O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic by No. 3 Kansas State, No. 12 Gonzaga, and Marquette. The No. 3 ranking is the highest ever for K-State, which is coming off an Elite Eight finish in the NCAA Tournament and a 29-8 season record. No. 4 Pittsburgh headlines the field of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer. This marks the fourth time in the last seven years and fifth time in history that the Panthers have been ranked in the Top 5 in at least one of the preseason polls. Wildcats prepare for elite competition at CBE in KCBy KELLIS ROBINETT The Kansas City Star

MANHATTAN, Kan. | During his tenure at Kansas State, basketball coach Frank Martin has taken the Wildcats as far away as Puerto Rico and Orlando, Fla., to take on ranked opponents in early-season tournaments.

He found one much closer to home this season.

Third-ranked K-State will take on No. 11 Gonzaga at 8:30 tonight at the Sprint Center in the CBE Classic, and then face either Marquette or defending national champion and top-ranked Duke on Tuesday.

Both games have been on the radar of K-State fans throughout the offseason, and with the game taking place just a two-hour drive from Manhattan, many of them will be on hand to watch.

The Wildcats regularly play in Kansas City — they will return to the Sprint Center later this year for a game against UNLV and the Big 12 tournament — but Martin is thrilled about this trip all the same.

“I think Kansas City is a great — not good — a great college basketball town,” Martin said. “It’s a great sports town, and to have Gonzaga, Duke and Marquette. … When you bring people like that together into an event, that’s big-time basketball.”

K-State last played on a neutral court in front of a national television audience in the NCAA Tournament last March. The Wildcats lost a close game to Butler in Salt Lake City, and today’s game will bring back some memories of that setting.

Gonzaga, like Butler, is one of the most respected teams in the country that doesn’t play in a major conference. The Zags have made a name for themselves by consistently winning West Coast Conference championships and playing games deep into March.

Martin knows Gonzaga coach Mark Few fairly well, and holds his team in high regard.

“He gets those guys to play,” Martin said. “There’s a reason why every year when you look at conference championships, 99 percent of the time that conference belongs to them, which is very impressive. And when you look at the NCAA Tournament, Gonzaga is always right in the middle of it with a very high seed … it’s going to be a big-time challenge for our team.”

K-State is coming off an uninspiring 76-67 victory against Presbyterian last Thursday. After the narrow victory, Martin said the Wildcats lacked leadership and were falling short in several basic areas, such as rebounding and enthusiasm.

When asked about the possible matchups the final game of the CBE Classic could produce, Martin scoffed.

Duke will get its first true test of the season against Marquette in the opening game of the CBE semifinals at 6:30 tonight. The Blue Devils, 3-0, return Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith, who leads the team with 16 points per game, and Marquette, 4-0, is striving for a national ranking.

“I don’t tell our team, ‘Hey, we’ve got a chance to play Duke and they’re No. 1,’” Martin said. “I don’t talk about that stuff. I talk about getting better.”

Listening to his coach made senior guard Jacob Pullen realize something.

“Every game is a big game when you’re the No. 3 team in the country,” Pullen said.

With that in mind, K-State plans on approaching this game with renewed energy — getting to play so close to home is simply a bonus.

“It will be good basketball against three other good teams out there that are highly ranked,” guard Martavious Irving said. “But we’ve got to prepare for them just like we do every other team on our schedule.”

Duke could face biggest challenge yet

The Duke Blue Devils have a distinct scheduling strategy. If at all possible, they avoid true road nonconference games. This isn't new. Since 2007, Mike Krzyzewski's team has played no more than two true road nonconference games in any season, and that includes the team's mandated visits to Big Ten arenas for the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.

That's neither criticism nor praise -- you could argue for or against this sort of scheduling paradigm -- but whether you like it or not, it makes Duke's road trips all the more intriguing. This season, the Blue Devils have a couple of actual away games -- a Nov. 27 date at Oregon (actually, the game is in Portland, but close enough) and a Dec. 29 date at UNC Greensboro -- but their biggest road test might end up not being a real "road" game at all.

If seeds hold at this week's O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic, Duke would face No. 4 Kansas State at Kansas City's Sprint Center in Tuesday's championship round. Duke fans always travel well, but they would no doubt be drowned out by K-State's feisty fan base, plenty of whom live in KC full time. Remember Butler fans in Indianapolis? Picture something similar, albeit with less on the line. (And about 40,000 fewer butts in the seats, given that the Sprint Center doesn't seat the 70,000 or so we saw at Lucas Oil Stadium in April.) Neutral-site games don't get much more hostile than that, and neutral-site opponents are rarely as skilled as the Wildcats.

It's a dream early-season matchup, but it's far from a guaranteed fixture. Duke and Kansas State will have their own challenges -- in the forms of Marquette and Gonzaga, respectively -- in the semifinal rounds Monday. Here's a quick preview to get you ready for the ensuing fun:

No. 1 Duke vs. Marquette, ESPN2, 7:30 p.m. ET, Sprint Center, Kansas City, Mo.

Players to watch Kyrie Irving, Duke: Replacing Jon Scheyer -- one of the nation's best and most efficient point guards last season -- is no light task, but Irving is already making it look simple.

The highly touted freshman has lived up to every expectation in the Blue Devils' three wins this season. He's wasted no time assimilating into Duke's up-tempo, high-powered offense, and he's wasted no time producing gaudy statistics alongside Duke's veteran duo of Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith. Irving has averaged 14.3 points, 6.7 assists and 4 rebounds (and only one turnover) per game, taking impressive command of the veteran Blue Devils during the team's early-season blitz. Monday night is Irving's formal introduction to a prime-time national audience, and it will be fun to watch him under the bright lights.

Jimmy Butler, Marquette: No player epitomizes Marquette's flexible style quite like Butler, an inside-outside threat with the ability to score from the perimeter and slash to the rim. Marquette lost its key scoring threat and interior presence with the graduation of Lazar Hayward to the NBA ranks this past offseason, and Butler's ability to replace Hayward's productivity -- especially given Marquette's personnel, which is heavy on tweener types and light on true forwards and centers -- will be key to the Golden Eagles' chances of surviving (and thriving) in the muddled Big East this season. Butler also likely will draw much of the responsibility for guarding Singler, and he has to provide lockdown defense if Marquette expects to stay within striking distance of Coach K's well-oiled squad Monday night.

Mason and Miles Plumlee, Duke: You have to feel for the brothers Plumlee. After all, not only do we group them together and call them the brothers Plumlee -- as though they're not two separate, autonomous humans -- but any time anyone raises the "But what are their weaknesses?" question about Duke, the Plumlee boys are the first names checked off the list. That has to be annoying. Annoying or not, though, it isn't an unfair question: Duke senior forwards Brian Zoubek and Lance Thomas were irreplaceable keys to the Devils' title run last season mostly thanks to their ability (especially Zoubek's) to preserve Duke possessions with offensive rebounds. Whether the Plumlees can replace that skill -- a simple task in theory and an incredibly difficult one in practice -- is the biggest remaining question about the best team in college basketball. Monday night would be a good time to start answering it.

No. 4 Kansas State vs. No. 18 Gonzaga, ESPN2, following first game

Players to watch Curtis Kelly, Kansas State: No college hoops fan needs to be reminded that Jacob Pullen is Kansas State's key player, but it might be worth mentioning Kelly's name again.

After all, he has missed most of the Wildcats' early-season action after being benched in the team's season opener against James Madison thanks to Frank Martin's desire to send Kelly a message about practicing with more energy and a better attitude. Martin backed up his disciplinary overtones by benching Kelly for Kansas State's first major contest, a 73-57 win over Virginia Tech on Tuesday. Thanks to injuries, the Hokies are a little shallow in the frontcourt, and K-State didn't need Kelly to dominate Virginia Tech in the post. Gonzaga, with 7-foot center Robert Sacre and 6-foot-8 forward Elias Harris, won't be quite so easy to solve. Martin hasn't said whether he's decided to play Kelly on Monday night, but the Wildcats will need Kelly to play -- and be effective on the defensive end of the floor -- if they want to match up with Gonzaga's potent size.

were positive signs, most of them revolving around the brilliant guard play of Gray. (Not to mention that losing to this San Diego State team, even in the Kennel, is hardly something to be ashamed of. These Aztecs are for real.) Gray scored 35 points in the SDSU loss, as good a sign as any that he can take over the game against good teams when he needs to. But Gonzaga needs more than that from its star guard. Gray has to score, sure, but Mark Few also needs him to defend its opponents' best guard, lead his team in Matt Bouldin-esque fashion and maintain some sense of distribution and balance with Sacre and Harris. It's a huge ask -- especially against a team with guards as good as Pullen and freshman Will Spradling -- but it's one Gray seems capable of managing, at least thus far.

Other assorted thoughts • It'll be interesting to see how Gonzaga rebounds in its first game after the San Diego State loss. The Bulldogs play the toughest schedule of any team in the nation this season, and the CBE Classic is no different. Does the team adjust its style? Is it skittish? Out of whack? Uncomfortable? Comfortable? Focused? Resolved? With a nonconference schedule this brutal, there's no time to mull over past disappointments, because better and tougher teams are always around the corner. We'll get a good look at how well Gonzaga can handle those challenges going forward after taking one on the chin last week.

• Welcome to college hoops, Vander. Marquette's freshman Vander Blue hasn't drawn the same plaudits as some of his more highly touted classmates, but he was a big-name recruit in his own right -- the No. 31-ranked player in the 2010 class, to be exact -- and he's already playing big minutes (27.3 per game) for Buzz Williams' team. But Blue hasn't faced anything like the guards he'll see in Duke jerseys Monday night, the combination of playmaking (in fellow freshman Irving), shooting (Seth Curry, Andre Dawkins) and sheer experience (Nolan Smith). That's an overwhelming wealth of talent, but if Blue rises to the level of his opponents Monday night, he'll start earning the sort of diaper-dandy headlines that have thus far been reserved for Irving, Harrison Barnes, Jared Sullinger and few else.

• How fast will Duke play? After Coach K's time with up-tempo guru Mike D'Antoni during the duo's work for USA Basketball, Krzyzewski came back to Duke with a newfound enthusiasm for up-tempo basketball. But given the strengths of last year's team -- the way Scheyer operated in the half court, the plodding interior excellence of Brian Zoubek, et al. -- Coach K slowed things down much to the Dukies' benefit. (According to Ken Pomeroy, the Blue Devils averaged 65.5 adjusted possessions per game in 2009-10, ranking them among the 100 or so slowest teams in Division I basketball.) This season, the Blue Devils have showed signs they want to play faster -- they're averaging 69.8 possessions per game thus far, making them the 61st-fastest team in college hoops. But three games is a small sample size, and those up-tempo efforts have come in three blowout wins, the kind of early-season roll-the-ball-out-and-play games that typically devolve into fast-break fiestas. Given this season's personnel, it behooves the Dukies to play up-tempo. Whether Coach K will maintain the team's early pace against quality opponents is another matter entirely.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- We haven't reached Thanksgiving yet, but it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

College basketball will get a wonderful pre-holiday gift Tuesday night, when the CBE Classic will conclude with a championship contest pitting No. 1 Duke against No. 4 Kansas State. The teams reached the title game by vanquishing Marquette and Gonzaga, respectively, in Monday night's semifinals. This titanic clash will teach us a lot more about these teams regardless, but more than anything it will provide us with some March-worthy entertainment. Here are the five biggest questions that will determine the outcome:

1. Who will blink first in the tempo war?

This game is going to be fun to watch because both teams really want to get out and run. But here's the rub: Both teams also want to force the other to execute in the half court. So while transition defense will be pivotal, at some point one of these teams is going to have to make a concession and apply the brakes. When you see one coach putting his palms down to tell his guys to slow down, you'll know the other team has the upper hand.

2. Is Kansas State really that good of a three-point shooting team?

The Wildcats came out sizzling Tuesday night against Gonzaga, making nine of their first 11 three-point attempts. They finished shooting 12-for-26, or 46.2 percent. That is way above the 36.4 percent clip they had coming into the game. Did the Wildcats have an "on" night? Or is this the new normal? If it's the latter, the Blue Devils had better get out on those shooters.

3. Is one greater than five?

This isn't math class, it's a basketball game. So while Kansas State can run five power forwards and centers through the post, none will be the best big man in the game.

That "one" will be Duke's 6-foot-10 sophomore Mason Plumlee, who had his best game as a collegian Tuesday night against Marquette, finishing with 25 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks and three assists. Plumlee has the potential to be a one-man wrecking crew, but he will face a lot more defensive pressure on Tuesday night than he did against Marquette. "Their half-court defensive pressure is just stifling," Gonzaga coach Mark Few said of Kansas State. "Even a normal entry pass is not a given."

Because Marquette is a smaller team that plays a four-guard lineup, Duke did not get many minutes from its other big men, junior Miles Plumlee and sophomore Ryan Kelly. Those two will need to be bigger factors against Kansas State.

Incidentally, this question could also have been, Is eight greater than 11? Kansas State played 11 guys for five or more minutes against Gonzaga, but Duke only went eight deep against Marquette. The Blue Devils' core of Mason Plumlee, Kyle Singler, Nolan Smith and Kyrie

Irving each played 32 or more minutes. After the game, Mike Krzyzewski brushed aside the suggestion that they might have some tired legs for Tuesday night -- "These guys play all summer; they're fine" -- but K-State guard Jacob Pullen made clear that his team's depth should be an advantage in trying to win on back-to-back nights.

"We think we're the deepest team in the country," Pullen said. "That's what we hang our hat on. We want to get you into your bench, because we know we're comfortable with ours."

4. Who will have the advantage at the foul line?

Both teams tend to take a lot of free throws. The difference is, Duke makes them. Though Krzyzewski expressed surprise that his team missed the front end of a one-and-one three times -- "I'm not sure that's ever going to happen again" -- Duke came into the game with its top five players all shooting better than 80 percent from the foul line. The Blue Devils shoot 75.6 percent as a team. Kansas State, on the other hand, shoots a rancid 50.6 percent. It doesn't take a genius to understand that is a potentially fatal flaw.

Kansas State also commits more fouls than just about any team in the nation. It was whistled for 23 on Monday night, which allowed Gonzaga to shoot 29 free throws (it made 23). The Wildcats will have to show a lot more discipline against Duke. They'll also have to hope the referees allow a lot of contact.

5. How will Duke handle the crowd?

Krzyzewski doesn't schedule many true nonconference road games against top-ranked teams anymore, and while this game is not taking place in Manhattan, believe me it will feel like a road game. The Sprint Center is going to be packed with thousands of purple-festooned fans, and they are going to put a level of game pressure on Duke that it has not felt yet. With all the hype surrounding the nation's No. 1-ranked team, it's easy to forget that the Blue Devils graduated three seniors off the starting quintet that won the NCAA title. Their point guard is a freshman, their sophomore center was a role player last year, and they become less experienced when they have to go to their bench.

Prediction

These teams are evenly matched across the board, so I expect the game will come down to threes and frees. Duke is a better three-point-shooting team and a much better foul-shooting team than Kansas State. I also believe Kansas State is a little too turnover-prone. The Wildcats committed 22 against Gonzaga, and Duke is much more proficient at turning those miscues into buckets. K-State's toughness and the crowd's intensity will keep it close, but in the end, it's about making baskets. And Duke will make just a couple more.

Coach K reaches another milestone with No. 1 Duke

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -Mike Krzyzewski's latest milestone win came with an impressive dismantling of one of the best teams in the country.

Top-ranked Duke's 82-68 victory over No. 4 Kansas State on Tuesday night in the championship game of the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic was Coach K's 800th win at Duke.

As usual, he deflected the attention from himself to the school that he has worked at since 1981 and the many players who have scored those points and defended all those opponents.

"It means I'm at a great school," said Krzyzewski, who became the fifth coach to win 800 games at one school. "It has afforded me the chance to recruit great kids. I feel really comfortable coaching at a high caliber and you're much better able to form a team with kids with good character. We try to develop the good character they bring us. Duke allows us to recruit nationally and for me being there for 31 years. ... I'm a lucky guy to be there."

He's been lucky enough to win 873 games overall including his stint at West Point, his alma mater where he played under Bob Knight, the all-time wins leader at 902. Krzyzewski's win total is three behind Adolph Rupp for third place on the career list.

This was also another November win for Duke. The Blue Devils have won 27 straight games in the 11th month of the year and under Krzyzewski they are 107-10 in November.

This was the fourth straight year Duke won an in-season tournament and the Blue Devils won the one that comes after the season last April, their fourth national title under Krzyzewski.

"Our guys played great. We beat an outstanding team in a great environment," Krzyzewski said. "Our defense was just really good. I thought we never let up. We won a big-time game."

Freshman guard Kyrie Irving and senior guard Nolan Smith both scored 17 points and combined on an outstanding defensive job on preseason All-America Jacob Pullen.

"They were terrific," Krzyzewski said of his starting backcourt, "but I can say that about every single one of our players tonight. We have to be really good or else we would not beat a really good team. Our guards combined for 34 points and controlled the ball and played good defense, so we had a good chance to win with that production."

Duke (5-0) made sure the sellout crowd of 18,696 - most wearing something purple to support the Wildcats - was never a factor, taking the lead for good 7 1/2 minutes into the game and then going on to lead by 17 points midway through the second half on the way to its 15th straight win.

Five games into his college career, Irving gave quite a performance in a neutral-site game that certainly wasn't.

"I definitely saw a lot of purple shirts in the crowd, so it felt like an away game," Irving said of a game played in the Sprint Center, about two hours from the Kansas State campus. "That's how we approached it. We had to block them out and just play our game."

Irving wouldn't take the credit for holding Pullen, who led Kansas State's run to the Elite Eight last season and made wearing a beard at a college basketball game fashionable, to four points on 1-for-12 shooting, including 1 of 8 from 3-point range.

"First of all it wasn't a single job on my part. It was a team effort," Irving said. "When we were going through our walkthrough we had to really lock in on him. We had an awareness on him the whole entire game. I think we did a great job on the defensive end, which gave us offensive momentum."

Pullen sounded like a senior veteran.

"It's early in the season. The ball wasn't going in on shots I normally take," said Pullen, who entered the game averaging 16.5 points on 46 percent shooting, 41 percent behind the 3-point line. "They have a really good team. I probably won't see a lot of defenses like that all year. I still got a lot of looks that I like, a lot of looks that usually go in."

Kyle Singler and Andre Dawkins both had 11 points for Duke, while Mason Plumlee added 10.

Curtis Kelly led the Wildcats (4-1) with 19 points.

"Our guys battled and fought hard," Kansas State coach Frank Martin said. "We lined up and played a heck of a basketball team today. We are a very young team and we will use this as a great learning experience. ... It did not work out today, but that is what happened and we'll be better next time."

Kansas State finished 27 for 56 from the field (46.8 percent), although the Wildcats made just three of 17 3-point attempts. They finished with 21 turnovers that Duke turned into 25 points.

"You cannot turn it over 21 times and be 11 of 23 from the foul line and have any chance at beating the No. 1 team in the country," Martin said. "Duke does a great job defensively. We are not the only team in the country that they have done that to before."

Duke shot 48.1 percent overall (26 for 54), but the Blue Devils made half of their 12 3-point attempts.

"We didn't take as many 3s as we usually do," Krzyzewski said. "But our guards did such a great job of driving to score as well as create shots for others."

Duke's next three games are at Oregon on Saturday, home for No. 2 Michigan State on Dec. 1, and versus Butler, the team it beat in last season's national championship game, at the Meadowlands on Dec. 4.
