CBUC consortial borrowing background
• In 1998, the CBUC union catalog makes possible to initiate a consortiated ILL service thanks to:– CBUC ILL rules– a private courier to send the documents– a protocol to ensure the replacement of books in case of loss
or theft.• It works through the traditional ILL services of every consortiated
institution .• It works with a ILL Spanish software out of the union catalog
system.• The user must pay.• The academics are the main users.
This service works like that until the end of 2011.
The PUC consortial borrowing (I)
• In 2009, CBUC institutions considered that it would be necessary to approach library collections to the users.
• And they decided to implement a consortial borrowing system that began in late 2011. It was named PUC that in Catalan means ‘I can do that!’.

1. It is a service that allows users from any consortiated library borrowing items from any other consortiated library.
2. It allows to make the request directly from the CCUC union catalog interface (Millennium) http://ccuc.cbuc.cat
3. It allows physically taking documents from other CBUC libraries (walk-in borrowing).

4. It is free.
5. It is open to the entire university community (students, academics, workers…).
6. The request is made directly to the document’s owner library (no ILL services intermediation).
7. The PUC is the result of a partnership between Innovative Interfaces and CBUC.
The PUC circuit
The system validates the request and assigns it to a
CBUC library The owner library manages the delivery
The book is sent to the library chosen by the user
The user receives an automated email saying
that the document is available
The user has 4 period of days to pick the book up
The user returns the book to any library of
their institution.
This library returns the book
to the owner library through the
CBUC private courier
