Welcome to Week 8 of Term 3.
Stage 6 students are reminded of information provided to them re-garding opportunities for potential scholarships and early entry to university. Mrs Penny Sheppard visited the school last week and Stage 6 students were provided with information on the Country Ed-ucation Foundation(CEF) Darlington Point/Coleambally and applica-tions for this year’s round of grants and scholarships, which include an Engineering scholarship from Coleambally Irrigation Cooperative Ltd. Applications with the CEF close on 31 November 2018. Year 12 students have also been provided with information on the Schools Recommend ation Scheme, which can provide students with early entry to university. Applications for the Schools Recommendation Scheme close on Friday, 28 September 2018 and there is not much time to complete an application if students are considering this opportunity. Students are encouraged to see our Pathways Officer Mrs Jacquelyn Young for assistance with an SRS application if you require help. Transition Programs The 2019 Kindergarten Transition Program ‘Mini-Kindy’ commences tomorrow, with the first session with Mrs Clarke taking place. On Monday, Mr Allen and Mr Turtle visited St Peter’s Coleambally and Darlington Point Public School to meet students and commence the 2019 Year 7 Transition Program. Parents of Year 6 students at all schools will receive an information pack which includes an enrol-ment application and a letter informing them of the Year 7 Transi-tion Program activities and Parent Information Night. Life Education Van The Life Education Van will be visiting Coleambally Central School on the last two days of Term 3. Depending on their year, primary students will participate in modules relating to the human body, physical activity, nutrition, medicines and drug education and healthy relationships. I am sure students are looking forward to meeting Harold!

Road Safety As the beautiful spring weather begins, more students will be inclined to ride a bicycle or scooter to school. If you are riding a bicycle or scooter to school it is mandatory to wear a helmet. Helmet laws for cyclists of all ages in NSW help prevent head injuries and brain damage from falls and crashes. The Road Rules state that a bicycle rider on roads and road-related areas must wear an approved bicycle helmet securely fitted and fastened. This applies to all bicycle riders, regardless of age, including children on bicycles with training wheels and any child being carried as a passenger on a bike or in a bicycle trailer. Finally…. My door is and always has been open – whether you are happy, sad or mad. I need to know if we are not doing something right, but I also need to know that you trust our motives and intentions. Every-thing we do, every single day is for YOUR children. If we can do it better, tell us.

The School Merino Wether Challenge 2018 This is an annual competition run by the NSW Stud Merino Breeders
Association to provide young people with experience in the merino
industry. Edgelabra Stud, Warren, provided a flock of 400 merino
wethers to be divided amongst 36 schools across NSW. Each school
received 7 wethers, with 6 to be shown and 1 reserve. The sheep were
delivered in February, grown out and shown in Dubbo on the 28 – 29th
August.
Our wethers received praise from the judges for their presentation,
structure and uniformity. They were judged for wool and structure on
Tuesday before being shorn. Each wether’s fleece was weighed and
assigned a yield %. The wethers were then weighed and muscle/fat
measurements taken by ultrasound. We were pleased to have good
muscle (>26mm) and minimal fat (<1mm per kg).
Our wool yield was good (75%) with an average micron of 19.2. This means our wethers had an excellent
balance between meat and wool production, and would prove a productive enterprise on farm. Well done
Stage 6 Agriculture!
We would like to thank Mr Harrigan for his help and organisation, and Ian Payne and Sharon Breed for
donating our sheep pellets and accompanying us to Dubbo.

Looking at a career in Engineering then take a good look at this wonderful
opportunity…
Coleambally Irrigation Cooperative Ltd (CICL) in conjunction with the Country Education
Foundation of Coleambally-Darlington Point is offering a scholarship for students
studying Engineering in 2019. The students need not necessarily be in the first year of
their Engineering course.
The students would apply for a CEF CDP education grant for 2019 and if successful in
being awarded a CICL Grant Latta Bonded Scholarship will be funded by CICL on the fol-
lowing basis:
If the recipient is a first year student, they will receive $5000 for that year, increasing to
$7500 for the remainder of the course.
If the recipient is a second (3rd or 4th) Year student, they will receive $7500 for that year
and the remainder of the course.
The recipient will receive their scholarship funds through CEF CDP on the provision of
invoices or receipts for expenses relating to their study – for example, accommodation,
texts, specialist equipment, travel …
The recipient would be required to work for CICL for a period of time during the main
summer and winter vacations each year. They would be paid for this work. They would
be required to work for CICL post- graduation for a period of 3 years (dependent on
whether they receive the scholarship from year one.) If the recipient chose not to work
for CICL, or leave during the 3 year period, they would be required to refund the
scholarship or a portion thereof.
The recipient can study at any University he/she chooses. The student would be
required to make satisfactory progress throughout the course.
This CICL Grant Latta Bonded Scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for a young person
wishing to pursue a career in Engineering.
