Lab Activity 1 Hitachi Universal Replicator Configuration and Operation

Configuration Document Make sure you understand the proposed configuration before beginning.

Step 1. Host Groups and Logical Device (LDEV) mapping: • Host groups 00 on ports CL1-A and CL2-A already should be set to Windows host

mode (0C). • LUN Security should not be set. We have only one host per port, and that host

needs to access all LUNs mapped to the port. • LDEVs should already be mapped to the host-connected ports. These will be used

as P-VOLs (CL1-A) and S-VOLs (CL2-A). Be sure to note port, host group, and LUN numbers for later reference.

o CU 00 – Eight 2GB OPEN-Vs mapped to CL1-A as LUNs 000-007 Usage: TrueCopy and Universal Replicator P-VOLs

o CU 02 – Sixteen 2GB OPEN-Vs mapped to CL2-A as LUNs 010 – 017 and LUNs 020-027.

Adding ShadowImage In-System Replication to the 3DC Configuration Overview

Page 3-2 HDS Confidential: For distribution only to authorized parties.

Overview ShadowImage Heterogeneous Replication software is a storage-based hardware solution for duplicating logical volumes which reduces backup time and provides full volume replicas of P-VOL data. The user can choose to make up to nine copies of each P-VOL in an open systems environment.

Since each S-VOL is paired with its P-VOL independently by the use of differential bitmaps, each pair can be maintained as an independent copy set that can be split, suspended, resynchronized, and deleted separately from the other pairs using the same P-VOL.

Note: You will use the Universal Replicator S-VOLs created in a previous lab activity as ShadowImage P-VOLs. Your ShadowImage S-VOLs will be selected from LUNS 020 through 027 mapped to CL2-A. Refer to the configuration document created in lab Activity One if necessary.

ShadowImage Mirror IDs The diagram below illustrates the Universal Replicator and ShadowImage Level 1 Mirror ID relationship. Note your Port, Host Group, and LUN numbers on the appropriate volumes for guidance when creating the pairs later.

do this? ______ Why or why not? _________________________________________________

2. Perform the necessary operation to split the L2 Pair.

3. Issue the appropriate command to resynchronize all pairs Note that it is possible to resync both L1 and L2 with one Apply operation.

Lab 3 End

This completes the Lab Activities for the course.

You first created a Universal Replicator 2DC environment, and then converted it to a 3DC environment by adding the TrueCopy synchronous component.

Finally, you added ShadowImage pairs to mirror the Universal Replicator secondary volumes.

You now have a Three-Data-Center Multi-target replication with ShadowImage at the Remote Site
