CCEA Planning Framework for GCE Professional Business Services

IntroductionThe purpose of this Planning Framework is to support the teaching and learning of GCE Professional Business Services A2 Unit 3: Project Management Skills and Processes. The Planning Framework is based on specification content but should not be used as a replacement for the specification. It provides suggestions for a range of teaching and learning activities which provide opportunities for students to develop their knowledge and understanding

The Planning Framework is not mandatory, prescriptive or exhaustive. It is also available in word version and teachers should adapt and develop it to best meet the needs of their students.

Key FeaturesThe Planning Framework:

• Includes suggestions for a range of teaching and learning activities which are aligned to the specification content for GCE A2 Unit 3: Project Management Skills and Processes.

Highlights opportunities for enquiry-based learning. Indicates opportunities to develop subject knowledge and

understanding and specific skills Provides relevant, interesting, motivating and enjoyable teaching and

learning activities which will enhance the student’s learning experience.

Feasibility of the Project

Students should be able to:

identify client needs and objectives;

carry out research relevant to the project, including:- primary research;- secondary research; - environmental scan using the

PESTLE framework; and- SWOT analysis;

analyse research findings to verify the need for the project;

develop a business case, including project justification, timescales, risks and costs versus benefits of each option;

develop a project brief for a given or chosen project, including project overview, scope and objectives.

Class discussion: examine in detail the viability of client needs and objectives so that informed decisions can be made. Identify key objectives of the project (see resource 1&2).

Group activity: make a list of points to consider in relation to the feasibility of the project and discuss in groups, compare the lists drawn up (see resource 3).
