November 1, 2019
Time to catch your breath! We hope that those of you who have submitted applications for November 1st deadlines are able to breathe a sigh of relief that your first college applications are out. On the school end, all transcripts, school profiles, secondary school reports and recommendations (if required) were sent out to meet deadlines. Please note, it sometimes takes colleges several days or even weeks to catch up with entering the materials they received into their systems so please be patient as your online profile/account with the college populates with documents received. Sometimes colleges even generate automated messages upon receipt of your application indicating that items are missing. As long as you made a request, please be assured that all items are submitted on time.
Has a college told you that you are “missing”
a piece of your application?
● Don’t Panic. Please keep in mind that each piece of an application has to be matched with your application. This often takes 5-10 days, depending on the volume of applications and materials.
● Check your records. You have a record when/if your supporting materials were sent. Be patient and see above.
● If your account still indicates something as “missing” after 2 weeks, please contact the admissions representative for DHS. As long as you requested your supporting materials 2 weeks before the deadline, and submitted your application by 11:59 pm on the deadline date, the college most likely has all of your materials.
Upcoming Deadlines
The next deadlines for transcript requests are… November 15th app deadline? Make request by 11/1.December 1st app deadline? Make request by 11/15. January 1st app deadline? Make request by 12/15.
Again, don’t wait until the last minute!
November 15th Early Action & Early Decision deadlines are coming up. Be sure to check ALL of your college’s deadlines to make sure you are on track. Mrs. Flowers, Ms. Wiley, Ms. Saria, and your school counselor are all here to help you through the process.
November is a month when we think about gratitude, and it is an excellent opportunity to thank the teachers who worked hard to write your recommendations.
Don’t Lose Momentum!
Keep up the good work and don’t lose the momentum! Start thinking about applying for scholarships.
1) Check with the financial page of the colleges to which you’ve applied. Some colleges offer departmental scholarships that require filling out an additional application.
2) Visit the CCRC financial aid and Scholarship pages. We have DHS local scholarships that will become available after finals and national scholarship websites listed.
3) Check Maia. Scholarships are updated regularly.
Admissions Rep Information in Maia
To access rep information, click on ‘Colleges Applying’ to bring up your list, and then click on the name of the college you want to find the rep info for. Click on the ‘Admission’ tab and then scroll to the bottom of the page. You will see two categories: The bottom box on the right contains our rep information and you should use that email to reach out to reps. If we do not have rep information for a college, then you can use the admission contact located in the top box on the left.
FAFSA Priority Deadline November 15
In order to be considered for federal student aid for college expenses, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should be completed. Financial aid that students can qualify for through FAFSA are grants, loans and work study programs.
