The ruggedised modular

BVR700 broadband

vehicular router from

Cassidian is designed to provide

wireless broadband data

connectivity to IT equipment

deployed inside vehicles.

The BVR700 automatically

selects the best wireless

connection from the available

bearers, including 4G LTE and

commercial bands, as well as

Wi-Fi. Intelligent algorithms are

designed to allocate available

bandwidth for maximum

performance.

Shock, vibration, temperature

and water specifications mean

the router can be installed in a

wide variety of vehicles, including

cars, trucks, tracked vehicles and

motorcycles. n

IN-VEHICLE DATA CONNECTIONS

The broadband router is on show on Stand A301.

A new Tetrapol radio can

be seen on the Cassidian

stand. The TPH900 hand-

portable is designed to deliver

mission-critical voice and data

communications.

Features include simple display,

large keys, vibration alarm,

Bluetooth 2.1 and quick swap

battery.

Integrated GPS means the

radio can automatically transmit

its location in the event of an

emergency call or upon end user

request through a dedicated

shortcut key.

The ‘man-down’ alarm is

activated if the radio stops moving

or remains horizontal for too long,

generating an emergency call.

Tetrapol users can see the TPH900

on Stand A301. n

consistent quality of access to

information and communications,

whether in the field or indoors on

the intranet. n

LIGHTWEIGHT HEADSET

Savox is launching a new

lightweight, rugged headset

aimed at increasing the

productivity and safety of industrial

users.

The Savox L-H Headset can be

used as a behind the neck headset

or mounted directly into most

helmets or hard hats with the

fastening strap. This is designed

to provide a secure mounting, but

also for ease of use, with no tools

required to fit or adjust.

Weighing in at 60g, the headset

is dust and waterproof to the IP54

standard, with a noise cancelling

boom microphone for use in noisy

environments.

With the L-H Headset, Savox

is targeting sectors such as Oil

& Petrochemical, Process &

Refinery, Transport and Mass

Transit, Warehousing and Logistics,

Factory, Heavy Machinery and Fire

and Rescue. n

Wolfgang Kampichler,

a Chief Scientific

Researcher at Frequentis

AG, has been appointed as Vice –

Chair of the European Emergency

Number Association (EENA). He

is a recognized expert on Next

Generation (NG)9-1-1/NG112.

While citizens use IP-based

communications every day,

emergency services are not

widely reachable other than by

standard voice communications.

Frequentis participates in the

NG9-1-1 Initiative which was

started in 2000 by the National

Emergency Number Association

(NENA) to enable U.S. citizens to

send text, images, video and data

to 9-1-1 centres.

The NG112 initiative is the

European equivalent. The

NG112 Committee intends to

establish requirements so that

emergency services can be

accessed via a range of IP-

communications. The work also

aims to make emergency services

more interoperable using Next

Generation Networks.

supplier of communication and

information systems in safety-

critical markets – find out more

NEW VICE-CHAIR OF EENA NG112

Wolfgang Kampichler

DAMM has announced

completion of the latest

interoperability (IOP)

test between its TetraFlex

infrastructure software and all

major TETRA terminal providers.

The interoperability sessions were

carried out over several weeks,

under the supervision of ISCOM,

the TCCA-appointed independent

certification authority.

In a separate announcement,

Hytera reported that it too has

finished the official multi-vendor

interoperability test session with

its TETRA system ACCESSNET®-T

IP and all relevant terminal

manufacturers, carried out at

Hytera’s testing facility in Bad

Münder, Germany.

The IOP certification testing

process is carried out in a multi-

vendor environment and tests

the interaction between products

from different manufacturers.

Certificates are posted on

www.tandcca.com

The TCCA’s IOP process

ensures users and equipment

suppliers benefit from a truly open

multivendor market for TETRA

systems and equipment. Users

can be confident that products

awarded an IOP certificate have

been rigorously tested and the

functions listed in the certificate

fully meet the TETRA standard.

This allows users who select

equipment from a number of

suppliers to reduce the amount of

system integration and testing that

they need to undertake.

Earlier this year, the TCCA

announced that the 750th TETRA

interoperability test certificate had

been issued, marking the 15th

year of the process that has driven

the global adoption of the TETRA

standard. Each certificate issued is

for a specific infrastructure-radio

terminal combination. n

Critical Communications World NEWS DAY TWO Thursday 23rd May 2013 7

Join us on CCW 2013 booth G401

IMS Research has conducted a

study measuring the market for

accessories for use with portable

(handheld) licensed mobile radios,

including batteries, chargers,

antennas, speaker microphones,

headsets, tactical headsets and

surveillance kits. The study revealed

that the accessories market was

worth an estimated $1.2 billion in

2011, with good growth in both

shipments and revenues forecast

for the next few years.

The conclusion that the

accessories market makes up

a significant proportion of the

Licensed Mobile Radio (LMR)

market, quantified and confirmed

something that had long been

suspected. Based on the fact that

there are tens of millions of LMR

users around the world, there is a

large user base with a requirement

for accessories. Each radio in use

requires a battery, antenna and

charger to function as a minimum,

but the most interesting story

is from the specialist accessory

groups. As well as examining

the standard accessories the

study also examined specialist

accessory markets including ATEX,

hearing protection and wireless

accessories, all of which are set to

see double digit growth each year

over the next five years.

ATEX is of particular note, as

in recent years there has been

increasing interest in TETRA ATEX

radio systems. Despite the fact that

ATEX was originally an EU directive,

it has been adopted in a variety of

other regions including Australia,

the Middle East and Africa, where

TETRA ATEX systems have been

installed by a number of oil, gas

and mining facilities where such

operations require intrinsically safe

equipment. It is estimated that at

least 5 per cent of all TETRA radios

shipped in 2011 were ATEX certified

and demand has continued to

rise since then. ATEX radios also

require ATEX certified peripheral

accessories such as headsets and

speaker microphones, as well as

replacement approved terminal-

associated accessories such as

batteries and antennas. In line with

the growth in ATEX systems and

terminals, ATEX accessories have

also seen increased shipments, and

IHS predicts that this growth will

continue as users are increasingly

educated and familiar with the

benefits of such equipment. n

Deryn Evans is a Senior Market Analyst in the Critical Communications group at

IHS. Within the group Deryn specialises in the TETRA industry, Licensed Mobile Radio Accessories and Infrastructure markets. Deryn can be contacted at CCW on the IHS stand A503 and at [email protected]
