CHIEF FACTORS AFFECTING FOREST MANAGEMENT IN
UTTARANCHAL
• Conservation Forestry over 1000 mts. Msl.• Foothills & Tarai under production forestry• Hills under conservation forestr• Forest Fires• Resource availability for VPs./JFMCs on
sustained basis.• Forest based Economic activities/Forest
based industries
IMPLECATIONS
• Existing forests including more than 12000 van panchayats and PAs , though acting as carbon sink but are not covered.
• Density improvement if forests not covered• Farm forestry/agroforestry(Tillage/fertiliser
application etc.)• Most of the orchards excluded. • Conservation approach in hills no
incentive
• Thrust on forest based livelihood issues in Uttaranchal
• use of taxus baccata leaves
• use of tejpat leaves
• use of seabuckthorn fruits
• use of Jaitropha fruits for biodiesel
• Problems in calculating the base line
• Research institutes should come to help especially in soil carbon analysis
• There is no data available for carbon flux measurement.
Present Status in Uttaranchal
• Projects submitted • afforestation reforestation project betalghat• small micro hydel power project• Project in final stage• solar power heating in FRH• VILLAGE ENERGY SECURITY SYSTEM• WATER MILLS• FOREST BIOMASS BRICKETS PROJECT
