USSD

• Real time exchange of text-based data between a mobile device and a network server.

• Compatible with GSM USSD servers.• Mobile or network initiated.• Transmitted on a traffic channel (now) or

access channel (future).

Short Message Service (SMS)

• SMS includes text messages and various non-real-time, low bandwidth data services (such as LBS session initiation).

• Three solutions:– Traditional circuit-switched SMS (ANSI-41/SS7) using C.S0015

message format.– Transport level mapping using IMS and C.S0015 message

format.– Application level mapping using an instant messaging client.

• All solutions inter-operate
