CDT System Structure

CDT system consists of three parts, base station/RNC (for reporting data), EMS (for setting data collection function and summarizing data), and server (for collecting and analyzing data). The EMS system delivers the data collection strategy; and the engineer can set the RNC to report data by cell granularity.

When the system is abnormal, the CDT association log would record the failed signaling around the failure point. This record can be used for complaint handling or troubleshooting before the customer complains. This would help to increase the customer satisfactory degree.

Through the MR data of CDT, the engineer can speedily analyze the coverage status of the whole network or of each cell, and can trace the VIP subscribers geographically.

Page 4: CDT Introduction

What can CDT data analysis function do?

Analyze and optimize the coverage status of the whole network; analyze and optimize the worst cell.

Locate the subscribers filed the complaint; trace and analyze the signaling during the call.

What can CDT data

analysis function do?

Analyze and optimize the performance of the terminal.

Trace the VIP subscribers and ensure their QoS.

Ultimate target: Reduce the workload of drive tests (DT), and become the first choice for analyzing and locating the network faults.

Internal Use Only▲Advantages and Disadvantages of CDT Data Analysis

CDT DT/CQT OMC Performance

Analysis

Advantage 1.The CDT data is collected from calls in the whole

network. Therefore, it can comprehensively reflect the

real conditions of the network, and can help to accurately

locate the network faults.

2.The CDT data contains the historical data of the

subscribers, which would help to locate the subscriber or

play back the information.

3.The CDT can save a great capacity of data.

4.The VIP subscriber analysis function of CDT can help the

operator to learn the behavior of the high-end

subscribers, their access failures and call drops. This

function can help the operator to improve the QoS for the

high-end subscribers.

DT: The data acquired through DT is accurate, and can reflect the

coverage status along the road.

CQT: It can be used to acquire the coverage status inside the

buildings.

The complaint information can help to solve the network problems

and optimize the network.

1.It can help to learn the

network performance from

the macro angle.

2.It can help to analyze the

worst cells and can help to

learn the cell condition from

the macro angle.

3.The OMC alarm information

can help to discover the base

station faults.

Disadvantag

e

The geographical location of the subscriber is calculated by

the multi-path delay. Thus, certain error may exist.

1.The DT test scope are the passable roads and accessible

buildings. Nowadays, more and more base stations are

constructed in the network, then, the workload of DT increases

dramatically. In addition, the real subscribers are not involved in

the DT.

2. The CQT also cannot cover all spots within the key areas, and it

is a very time consuming and laborious task.

3.The complaint problem does exist. However, it is hard to

reproduce the problem, and it is impossible to get the firsthand

data.

The performance data can help

the operator to get a macro and

direct understanding of the

network, but it cannot present

the network performance in the

user level, and it is hard to

locate the problem.

Coverage Quality Analysis

Associating with GIS analysis, the engineer can evaluate the network coverage status by collecting and analyzing the DL RSCP, Ec/Io, and UE TX power during the calls, and can locate the weak coverage cells and pilot pollution areas.

Subject Analysis for Radio Network Faults

Terminal

Subscriber

Geographical position

The CDT data analysis function starts from the TopN statistics, and can speedily analyze the collected data in four aspects. After the preliminary analysis is complete, CDT would use the Call Trace function to further analyze the data.

Fault causes

Problem Problem phenomenaphenomena

Call TraceCall Trace

Page 10: CDT Introduction

Analyze the subscribers with TopN access failure rate.

Access Failure Analysis By associating the TopN subscribers, TopN causes, and current radio environment, the engineer can ascertain the root causes of the network faults, find out the internal rules, handle the customer complaints and some inherent problems of the network.

Access failure analysis

Analyze the TopN causes that lead to access failure.

Analyze the causes for access failure.Analyze the radio access environment

Page 11: CDT Introduction

Call Drop Analysis The analysis of call drop is similar to that of access failures. It can be analyzed through the following aspects: TopN cells, subscribers, terminal manufacturer, and call trace. Together with the GIS system and playback of the detailed signaling before the call drop, the network optimization engineer can speedily diagnose the network problems.

Call drop analysis

Page 12: CDT Introduction

Terminal Capability Analysis With the IMEI and information about the terminal manufacturer and terminal type, the engineer can locate the network failures caused by the terminal, such as access failures and poor handover or PS service quality. This function is especially important for diagnosing the network failures caused by bandit phones.

Analysis of the Call Behavior of the Subscribers The learning of the subscriber’s call behavior can help the operators to provide better services. The operator can collect detailed data about the service used by the subscriber, can speedily handle the customer complaints, can protect the main service areas of the VIP subscribers, and can provide diversified services for the targeted areas and at different time periods.

Networking Scheme CDT independent networking

There are only a data collection server and an analysis server, which costs little, and is suitable for the network with unlimited network connection in the global RNC and with comparatively small capacity.

There are only a data collection server and an analysis server in every equipment room. Taking the layout of the operator’s equipment room, data volume, and the network bandwidth of the equipment room into consideration, this scheme is reliable but costs much.

Co-networking NDS-U (data collection server) and NetMAX-U analysis server can be

installed in one computer, which costs little and is suitable for the network with little capacity demand.

Note: NDS-U and NetMAX-U can’t be installed in the computer in which the network manager is installed, and the reasons are:

1. It may affect the stability of the network manager’ operation.

2. The hardware of the network manager can’t support it.
