C. 3rd to 4th Quarters of the 18th Century -Early 19th Century
A recent sheathing of hand split shingles will f\.lrther preserve this 1l story
18th century heavy timber frame house along Perch Creek near the old Frenchtown and
New Castle Rail Road bed . Tile architectural history and development of this house is
not completely clear but what is apparent is that the house saw major plan rearrangement
in the early 19th century. The house appears to have been changed from a hall/parlor
plan to a side hall/parlor plan . A early 19th century stair exists against the west
gable end wall and over a corner fireplace support which is no longer operative . A
diagonal patch in the same corner of the second floor documents the chimney ' s earlier
rise through the house . The present stair hall appears to have been the parlor and a.fl th~+ htt~ losf ,f-5
present parlor earlier hall wt~ box winder stair . A patch exists in the opposite
corner of the parlor where the original stair probably rose . The second floor remains
basically untouched with its featheredged vertical board wall partitions and four panel
doors with wrought latches . Tile heavy timber framing is exposed on the second floor
and is decorated with a corner bead . The attic is accessible through a trap door and
a cormnon rafter roof frame is evident.
