ClInICAl PlACEmEnT REQuIREmEnTSStudents who DO NOT submit completed placement requirements will not be placed. Placement Requirements need to be verified each semester for the duration of the program. We no longer accept photocopies.
1. vulnerable Persons Police checkAll students are required to complete a yearly vulnerable persons police check. You must contact the local police department where you reside and request a vulnerable persons police check. If you live in Metro Toronto, York region or in the South Bruce area, you will need to pick up an application form here at the Centennial HP Science and Technology Centre, Room 352. See Frequently Visited Police Department List for more information. Please note that requests for vulnerable persons police check can take up to 8-10 weeks to process, therefore your form should be filed upon acceptance into the program. A clear vulnerable persons police check is required every year in order to attend practice. Please show the original copy to room 352. Please retain your receipt. If your vulnerable persons police check is positive you are required to contact your respective Chair for your program to arrange a meeting to discuss clearance for practice. Final decisions for proceeding with practice are conducted on a case-by-case discussion with the Chair or designate and the placement facility (fees vary).
2. immunization review FormIn order to comply with the Public Hospitals Act and to meet placement setting requirements an Immunization Review form must be submitted. This process is necessary to ensure that those working within health care facilities are free from or are protected against communicable and infectious disease. This form is to be filled out by a health care provider e.g. a physician, registered nurse, nurse practitioner, walk-in clinic and may take four to six weeks to complete (fees vary).
3. respiratory Mask Fit testMask fit testing will be done at Centennial College throughout the year. Watch for updates.
4. influenza immunizationInfluenza immunization is mandatory in the Paramedic program and Long Term Care settings with some hospitals also requiring proof. In the event of an outbreak at your placement, any student without the vaccination may be denied access to the facility, thereby, jeopardizing successful completion of practice. Centennial College will be having a flu immunization clinic in the fall – date to be announced. You will be expected to provide proof of documentation by December 1.
5. cPr/sFa All students are required to obtain CPR Health Care Provider (HCP) Level C certification/ re-certification on a yearly basis. Standard First Aid (SFA) is also required. CPR Level C-HCP focuses on emergency procedures for adult, child and infant patients. This includes choking emergencies, airway management, rescue breathing, CPR and two rescuer adult, child and infant CPR. Please present your Level C-HCP CPR card to Room 352 (fees vary).
Placement requirements need to be verified each semester for the duration of the program.

There are two types of buttons; they are hot buttons and warm buttons. Hot Buttons are pushed when you emotionally feel that your value as a person is being threatened. We sometimes react or even over react to a comment or situation. This is because one or more of our Hot Buttons have been pushed. This workshop helps participants discover their own Hot Buttons and learn how to defuse or ‘unpress’ them. Warm Buttons are pushed when you can see your value in a situation, compliment etc. These buttons show you your perception of what you think is your value to others. Participants will have an opportunity to discover their hot buttons, who pushes them and how to diminish their power over them.

Create and sustain fulfillment in jobs/career/life. Take the time to Stop! Listen! Learn! Plan! First, Stop and look at your present situation. Ask yourself if you are being fulfilled by job/career/life. Listen to this voice. Learn to create and sustain fulfillment. Finally, develop Action Plans to achieve lasting fulfillment. When caring for others, the challenge is to provide the best care possible at all times. This challenge can wear us down and drain us of our own fulfillment. We are taught how to look after others, not how to look after ourselves. However, it is our well-being that can affect the kind of care we provide.
