Jesse - A Special Child

A Tale by Cecibell LoweApocalypse, Before and AfterFall 2012, December 18, 2012

Once upon a time, there was a young woman named Josephine. She lived in New York City with her husband, Mark, and they loved each other very much.

They were very happy. But the one thing they wanted the most that they didn't have was a baby of their own. Every night, they prayed for a child, hoping that maybe one would come to them.

One day, an angel came to Josephine in her dreams. “Your prayers have been heard,” he told her. “You and your husband are going to have a very special child to call your own.” Josephine believed him and when Mark woke up, she told her husband the good news.

Soon enough, the angel's message came true! Josephine was pregnant with a healthy baby boy that they would name Jesse.

Jesse was a very good baby. He never cried too much or slept too little. He was perfect. Josephine and Mark couldn’t be happier with their little boy.

Odd things always happened around Jesse though. The angel never explained exactly how special Jesse really was, Josephine thought.

One day, when Jesse was still really little, he saw a spider web in the corner of his room. The spider who lived in the web went over to his crib, curious. When Jesse frowned at it, the spider suddenly turned around and climbed out the open window - Jesse didn't like spiders.

When he was a little bit older, Jesse had a babysitter that he didn't like very much. Old Mrs. Lilit smelled like rotten eggs and spouted old Bible stuff all day.

One day, Josephine and Mark came home and old Mrs. Lilit told them she was moving away forever to someplace far away in California called Death Valley. Jesse told them she wanted to go there because she was a hypocrite.

When bad things happened on the news, Jesse usually said that those things happened to bad people for a reason. Jesse hoped that those bad people would stop being bad and be good sometimes, too.

Every night after he turned seven, Jesse had dreams of a beautiful angel that spent hours talking to him. He kept it his little secret.

The angel would tell him about things that hadn't happened yet. The angel told Jesse that he was so special that he was going to be a hero. One day he would make sure that people were saved at the end of time. Jesse didn’t always understand the angel, but he trusted the angel. He just wanted to help good people, too.

Jesse never knew that his angel was also the angel that gave him to his parents, even though the angel felt familiar and friendly to him. Jesse liked the angel. He was his best friend.

When the end of time finally came, I finally found out how special I was.

Together with my best friend Lucifer, I helped save all the good people in the world.

SOMETIMES LUCIFER CALLS ME ‘ANTI’-SOMETHING AND I DON’T REALLY GET IT BUT WE’RE FRIENDS AND WE’RE HELPING PEOPLE SO I KNOW IT’S ALL GOING TO BE OKAY, AS LONG AS I HAVE LUCIFER - MY VERY OWN ANGEL.
