A NICE GREEN

DAY IN THE

NEIGHBORHOOD

NOT HOW IT IS DONE IN

POLLOCK PINES

SCHOOLS!

SUSPICIOUS PERSONS?

Representatives of CEDAPP, and

businesses met with Sheriff

D’Agostini, and Lt. Kim Nida of the

Placerville Police Department command staff

this week to discuss concerns expressed by busi-

ness owners and residents about a persistent

problem, complaints about an increasing num-

ber of transients in Pollock Pines, and questions

about possible “dumping” of transients by gov-

ernment agencies. This is an economic, quality

of life, and safety issue for all of us. Some resi-

dents have noted illegal campsites, visible ap-

parent transactions involving illegal substances,

and occasional graffiti. There have also been

instances of altercations in front of businesses.

Some possible steps to aid in management of the

problem were discussed, including posting of

“No loitering” signage, passage of additional

ordinances by the Board of Supervisors. With

regard to loitering issues, some steps must be

taken by business owners. This will be dis-

cussed with business owners in a separate

CEDAPP Business Blast that goes to business

owners.

Increased patrolling by the Sheriff is not a prac-

tical solution because of budget issues that af-

fect the entire county. Consistent and immedi-

ate reporting of incidents requiring a law en-

forcement presence is encouraged, and might

have the result of shifting resources over time.

In The Short term

Residents and business owners are encourage to

take some steps on their own that might help.

This can include: Call in every incident. Get it documented. Be able

to describe what the person looks like, what he/

she is wearing, what he/she is doing, which di-

rection, if any, he/she is moving.

All businesses should have a letter on file at 300

Fair Land (EDSO). It is a form letter which

gives arriving deputies the permission and

foundation for on the spot arrests.

SED – Special Enforcement Detail – To be initi-

ated by Sheriff D’Agostini, and involving

Sgt. Mike Lensing.

POP – Problem Oriented Policing – Also to be

used in Pollock Pines.

Let the defined population know they are not

welcome! It’s ok to let them know we are

not supportive of their way of life. Perhaps

PP can create some signage that lets the de-

fined population know that we will call law

enforcement on them and that we are watch-

ing at all times. Make it our own…create

community pride and ownership.

Possibly using internet based security cameras

that can be coordinated with the Sheriff’s

Department.

Also being developed is a Resident Dep-

uty program which would involve

deputies who live and work in the

community, and would have flexibility

in their operations.

CAR PEOPLE. PRIDE & JOY IS BACK!

Come see the classics, the ‘rods, and who knows; maybe a proto-

type?

WAR OF THE WORLDS DISCLAIMER

Once again we have to concede that there are three

kinds of people who might be reading this News-

blast. They are: The Smart, the Visitors, and the

ones who wear tinfoil hats. The Smart ones have a

sense of humor, and some of you even contribute to

this little piece of the newsletter. The Visitors can’t

be expected to know because some of this stuff is

Just a reminder here.

The material in this

Newsblast relating to

the THUNDER IN

ING CIRCUIT and

the PONY EXPRESS

RACE, is all….okay,

….. mostly fiction.

There is a reason we

refer to this as the

disclaimer. The mar-

tians are not invading

the earth, and an en-

durance race will not

be run on our roads, as

much as we might like

it. You will just have

to be satisfied with go-

ing to things like the

plausible, and they may not know the area well.

And then there are those few who

just might write a letter to their mem-

ber of congress to complain about the

misuse of streets by loud people and

loud cars. If you know one, simply offer to flatten

out the warped spaces on their tinfoil hat, and go

see the PRIDE & JOY car show, ‘cause you won’t

see a race.

THUNDER IN THE PINES RACING

Retro NASCAR stockers to race at THUNDER IN

THE PINES

Officials announced today that NASCAR will be

creating a new class of cars known as NASCAR

RETRO that will run in the NASCAR Nationwide

Series (NNS). The cars will essentially be NASCAR

full-sized stock cars from the 1966-68 years, but with

a few changes. Construction rules will allow custom

frames, modern brakes, modern

suspensions, and of course, en-

gines that meet the new rules and

use exotic and experimental fuels. The bodies, how-

ever, will have to be steel replicas of the bodies of

the cars that raced in 67-68. Rules will also set

weight minimums that will assure that

the replica racers weigh as much as the

originals.

Expect cars to “trade paint.”

Chris P. Bacon, British hog farmer, and Veteran of

the 24 hours of Le Mans was in Pollock Pines last

weekend when two of the new cars, a replica 1966

Ford Fairlane , and a replica 1967 Plymouth Fury,

were quietly brought into town. Parties associated

with the cars met occasionally at C & T’s

RESTAURANT, apparently hoping that they

would fit into the classic car crowd. Bacon,

who was in town on an agricultural matter,

recognized some of the personnel, and fol-

lowed them to a part of the proposed circuit

where the cars were tested on some of our Pol-

lock Pines roads. Bacon described the two

cars racing each other as ungainly and clearly

heavier than modern sedans, noting that : “It

was like watching two sumo wrestlers on

roller skates.”

Green slime halts construction

Planning the circuit was halted for a few hours

last Friday when yellow/green slime puddles

were found at two locations on Opal Trail,

near the Gold Ridge Lodge. Environmental

extremists from the group B.O.R.E. rushed to

the scene where B.O.R.E member Mystie Ed-

wards stuck her finger into one of the

puddles, tasted it, then declared

that the smear was a yellow-

legged frog that had been crushed by construc-

tion machinery. Her elation at causing the

halting of construction was dulled when a

botanist later identified the smear as more

likely to have come from a large

bird with a liver disease.
