What is PALS? PALS is a Positive Ageing Program aimed at promoting healthy, active ageing and social inclusion. The program provides older members of our community with information on social activities and health issues. Any older adult (aged 60-plus) who lives in, works in, or visits Monash can participate. Most of the activities are FREE however some events may include a small cost. For more details, see inside this booklet.

How to book Please read through the booklet and choose the events and activities that you would like to participate in. For each listing, there is a telephone number or email address for bookings. Use the details under each listing to book for that event. Please note: many of the events have a cap on the number of participants.

Community Events A number of events listed in this program are run by community groups and/or organisations other than Monash Council. Monash Council does not take responsibility for the management of these community events. We try to make sure that all event details are correct at the time of printing. However, details are subject to change without notice.

Community Transport Some Council events offer transport. Transport bookings must be made one week prior to the advertised event date. Transport is available to Monash residents at an additional fee and subject to availability.

Further assistance This book is available in other formats and languages upon request. Please contact Monash Council on: Phone: 9518 3555 Email: [email protected] www.monash.vic.gov.au/community/PALS

NEWS FLASH…

My Aged CareGetting support in the homeAs of 1 July 2016, older Monash residents seeking assistance in the home need to request this assistance through the national My Aged Care program.

This applies to people wanting to use the Meals on Wheels service or requiring help with with cleaning, home maintenance and shopping.

The change to the national program means people can no longer apply directly to Council for assistance through our Home and Community Care (HACC) program.

Instead, the Federal Government has introduced a centralised application system. People wishing to receive these services for the first time must request assistance through the My Aged Care system. The government will then make a referral to organisations such as Council.

This change only applies to new people applying for help. The 3,400 people who already receive assistance from Council’s HACC program will not be affected by this change, as services will continue to be provided as normal. If any of these 3,400 people require additional services or other changes to their existing services, Council will support them in accessing the My Aged Care system.

For further details and to attend an information session please refer to page 19, My Aged Care Information Session.

To access the My Aged Care system: www.myagedcare.gov.au 1800 200 422 For more info: 9518 3555.

Monash Men’s Shed Inc.Open Monday–Saturday 9.30am–3pm. Bogong Reserve, 49-77 Bogong Avenue, Glen Waverley Phone: 9561 8557

The Monash Men’s Shed aims to improve all aspects of men’s health whether it be through physical activity, mental stimulation, social enjoyment, health-focused programs or helping others in the community.

We have fully equipped wood and metal workshops in addition to recreation facilities, conversation areas, a well-used kitchen and access to computers & tablets – all available to any member wishing to use them. Not to mention our community garden.

There is virtually no limit to what we can offer, if enough members are interested. The urn is always hot for tea or coffee.

So if you’re a “bloke” why not pop in and have a look.

Please Note:

Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays are “noisy days” with power tools and machinery running. Tuesdays and Thursdays are “quiet days” with cards, darts, snooker, pool or billiards, cooking, art, lead lighting, computer tuition and casual conversation.

All men welcome.
