Acolytes are essential to our worship service. We so appreciate your child’s participation! Training
and a set of written instructions are available to your child. Acolytes experience the joy of bringing
the light of Christ into our church services. Speak with your child/children about prayerfully
considering whether they would like to serve the church through the acolyte ministry.
Do you see our church members in action? Where?
How? Are they serving within the church? Within the
community? We want to recognize our
Disciples in Action!
Click a pic and send it to us via email at:
[email protected]. Be sure to include who is in the
pic and how they are serving.
I don’t know about you, but I am ready for the many blessings
of summer. I love the weather that summer brings. The
transition between spring and summer is one of my favorite times of the year.
This transition means backyard barbeques, playing at the park, going to the lake
or enjoying the mountain. It can also mean taking some time to retreat to a
favorite vacation or “time away” site.
The need to retreat in order to renew and reenergize ourselves is very
important, and named numerous times throughout our Scripture. Throughout
the gospel story, we read of Jesus’ very intentional retreat to a solitary place for
spiritual renewal; often a mountain. Jesus understood the importance of getting
away from the many burdens and stressors that often fill our lives. He
understood the need to get away from everything in order to come back
stronger than ever. It was a time that allowed him to rest and to refocus. There
is definitely something to be said for getting away in order to retreat from that
which drains us.
There is something about getting away that renews and refocuses us. There
is something about getting away that puts us in an intentional and deepening
connection with God. My prayer for all of us is that at some point this summer
we get a chance to retreat. It can often be hard to find the time to get away, but
when we do what we experience is the renewal that we so desperately need.
May you and your loved ones find and experience this blessing some time
soon!
Blessings,
Brian
NOTES FROM THE PASTOR
Do you know why we are called United
Methodists?
I recently read this article on the web and thought I would pass along
this bit of trivia. There have been many nicknames for the band of believers
who followed John and Charles Wesley in their early ministry in England.
Their names included: Bible Moths, Methodists and Enthusiasts. The
methods, values, and tradition laid the groundwork for what would become
The United Methodist Church, 240 years after John and Charles Wesley
began their Holy Club at college.
Perhaps some of you remember when we were simply the Methodist
Church. Do you also remember when our name changed? On April 23,
1968, Bishop Reuben H. Mueller, of The Evangelical United Brethren
Church and Bishop Lloyd C. Wicke, of The Methodist Church, joined
congregations at the General Conference in Dallas, Texas. They declared,
“Lord of the Church; we are united in Thee, in Thy Church and now in “The
United Methodist Church.”
A new denomination was born and a new logo was created to represent
this union. A traditional symbol—the cross—was linked with a single flame
with dual tongues of fire. The United Methodist Church to God through
Christ (cross) and the Holy Spirit (flame). Most of us now recognize the
symbol as a place where United Methodist gather.
Today our church is one of the largest Protestant churches in the world
with over 12.4 million members. Thank you to our members for being a part
of this large family!
I hope to see you and your family this Sunday.
Pastor Mary
Thank you UMW Hannah Group for serving us during fellowship hour between services in May! Thank you Purpose Driven Life Sunday School who will serve us during the month of June

We welcome into our FUMC Church Family:

Our sympathy goes out to the family of Sheila Patton . Sheila passed
on May 6th. Her service was on May 11. Pastor Mary presided.
Our sympathy goes out to Patricia Bell and her family upon the death
of Patricia’s step mother who passed on Sunday May 21st.
Make Our Visitors Welcome
Remember when you first visited our church? Did you feel welcome? We hope you did, as we are a welcoming church. Visitors feel welcome when we make the effort to meet them. One suggestion is to look around. Most
of us sit in the same area, if not the same pew, during Sunday services. When someone you don’t recognize sits nearby, suck up your courage and say, “Hello, I don’t know you. My name is ______.” Or choose your own greeting. The point is to be friendly; you don’t have to be suave. And don’t forget to follow up – tell a pastor about your encounter and then smile. The Lord surely is. - The Revitalization Hospitality Group

Did you know the lowest time of giving
to the General Fund is during the
summer months? And yet, with the sum-
mer activities that occur in the church,
our utilities are still high and due every
month. If you are out there touring or
participating in activities in our wonder-
ful country this summer, Please keep in
mind we have On Line giving and the
United States Postal Service still works!
We have 12 Stephen ministers actively serving
our church! Please keep our ministry in prayer.
Do You Need a Hand?
If you are looking for help, or looking to lend a helping hand, check the poster in the Koinonia Room. There, you can request help with a
little job, or connect with someone who needs your help.
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back. Luke 6:38
