All activities are FREE and open to the public Beach Walk Little Talbot Island State Park Saturday , September 11th at 10:00 Join library staff for a beach-themed story time followed by a guided Beach Walk with a Park Ranger. Perfect for families! No reservations are necessary. Nature Hike Fort George Island Cultural State Park Saturday , September 11th at 2:00 p.m. Join a Park Ranger for a leisurely paced hike to discover the island’s natural communities. Participants are encouraged to bring bug spray and bottled water. This program will take place at the Ribault Club on Fort George Island Cultural State Park. No reservations are necessary. Please join Florida’s state parks, public libraries, and literacy organizations in celebrating Florida Literacy Month. Entrance to Florida’s state parks will be free the weekend of September 10-12 for visitors who bring a library card or donate a new or gently used family book. Special activities at Florida’s state parks create an appreciation for both reading and the environment that visitors can take back to the classroom and community. Explore book displays and reading lists related to the Florida outdoors at your local library! All activities on Sunday, September 12 th (listed below) will take place at the historic Ribault Club on Ft George Island Cultural State Park. No reservations necessary. 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. – Learning to Read A display of portraits, biographies and essays of adult new readers in Northeast Florida 10:00 a.m. - Marsh Walk Join a ranger for an interactive reading of A Day in the Salt Marsh by Kevin Kurtz. Learn about what happens in a salt marsh hour by hour as the tide rises and falls. Try your hand at games featuring the salt marsh or take a walk on your own to see some of the plants and animals of the marsh first hand. 10:30 a.m. - St Johns Riverkeeper Learn more about St Johns Riverkeeper including current projects, issues, and how you can help. (Ballroom) 11:15 a.m. - Carol Wyninger, Master Gardener Create a Backyard Habitat - learn landscaping tips to make your Florida yard attract and benefit wildlife. (Dining Room) 11:30 a.m. - Craig Weeks, Photographer Meet award-winning outdoor photographer Craig Weeks. Craig will offer tips and answer questions as he shares his photos of beautiful Northeast Florida. (Ballroom) 12:15 p.m. - Global Greenup Meet Martin Kabaki and Purity Gikunju, founders of Global Greenup and Growers Alliance Coffee. Learn more about how Martin and Purity are educating households about green living while supporting both local growers and farmers in their homeland of Kenya. (Dining Room)
