Celebrate Literacy Week could not be more exciting this year! Ms. Uriarte and Ms. Graves will teach braille while reading Walk Two Moons, a book with a blind main character. This is a study that highlights the importance of students/people with disabilities.

Ms. Tallant will do her annual book give away in the hallways. This is a fabulous way to help students that may not otherwise be able to afford a book.

Ms. Supple will be hosting the SLAM showcase in the media center and will give away prizes, along with Ms. Tallant, to anyone caught reading.

Page 2: Celebrate Literacy Week...Davidsen Middle School Celebrates Literacy 2017-2018 Celebrate Literacy Week could not be more exciting this year! Ms. Uriarte and Ms. Graves will teach braille

Mr. Heath, the art teacher, will be teaching 3-D art. He requires that his students write papers filled with vivid adjectives before they sculpt so that everyone can envision the projects before they are even started.

Ms. Mesa is holding a poetry contest with a prize for the best poem and the best limerick.

Mr. Stevens will be celebrating poetry as well, as his students make pop-up books, poetry pillows and poetry magnets.

Ms. Horn will have all of her students illustrate the book Tangerine. She loves picture notes and novel illustrations as much as her students do.

Ms. Burns will begin the week with a book pass and will end the week by lending all of her books out to students. She keeps a great middle school classroom library.

Ms. Swenson will host a big push on reading counts pitting class against class for her spectacular celebration that culminates with food and prizes.

And our grand finale with be teachers dressing as idioms and parts of speech with the students guessing the idiom by looking at teacher’s pictures in the cafeteria.

Our goal is to combine literacy and fun as everyone learns better if having a blast!
