Fountainview salutes our team members who set the standard

While “Paint Me A Birmingham” is a famous and favorite country music tune, the term “Birmingham” is often confused for the state of Alabama when, in fact, “Birmingham” is used to describe a home or settlement. It is a place “to put down roots” and “grow.” The lyrics tell the story of the narrator meeting an artist on the beach who is painting ocean scenes. He then asks the artist to paint the plans he had with his lost love, bringing color and vibrancy to memories of his life’s journey and desire! This is a perfect title to explore thinking outside of the box, celebrating the rebirth of spring and the beautiful colors, sights and sounds of the season! We invite you to explore memories and activities from your past and honor the path that has lead you to enjoy life today! Our Lifestyle 360 Signature Program can help you to explore and channel your creativity for the arts. Celebrate the memory of lost loves. Unlock the amazing history and beauty in museums around the world! Participate in outdoor social and dining events! This month presents endless opportunities for reminiscing and celebrating life! We will channel our signature program in a variety of ways throughout April. Join us for some interesting and enjoyable programs.

NSU Lifelong Learning The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre Thursday, April 22nd • 6:45 p.m.

1929 was a particularly bad year. The stock market crash and prohibition led to the formation of serious organized criminal gangs in America. Bootlegging was simply too profitable to go unexploited, second in earnings only to the automotive industry. Gangland murders became commonplace, particularly in Chicago, where it was the Irish against the Italians, Northsiders versus Southsiders. The assassination of seven men inside an empty automotive garage on Valentine’s Day, became national news, and Al Capone along with it. Join Stephen Singer for the real story of how and why it happened.

Stephen Singer was a criminal defense attorney for 44 years before leaving New York. He also worked as a freelance journalist for Newsday, an associate attorney at the Legal Aid Society of New York City and a special agent in the intelligence division of the United States Treasury Department. He teaches courses on history and criminal law topics including Trying the High Profile Criminal Case; Psychology and Criminal Law; Ethics and Criminal Law and the Role of the Defense Attorney in Criminal Cases.
