DIWALI means rows of lighted lamps. It is a festival of lights and all
hindus celebrate it joyfully. In this festival, people light up their hous‐
es and shops. During this festival, people worship Lord Ganesha for
welfare and prosperity and Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and wisdom.
This festival is celebrated in the Hindu month of Kartika which falls
during the months of October and November. Diwali is celebrated for
five consecutive days and is one of the most popular festivals in India.
Diwali comes exactly twenty days after Dussehra. It is a celebration of
life and the occasion is used to strengthen family ties and relation‐
ships. It is celebrated by letting off fireworks by children.
Temples are decorated with Diya's (Deepam) during Diwali. People
light up their homes and shops with Diya's, to welcome the Goddess
of wealth and fortune, Lakshmi, to seek good luck for the year ahead.
This is a great opportunity for the devotees to visit temple and get
blessing of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha.
