Well, one fourth of the year has already gone flying by. Last week I attended the Board of Directors meeting

at the Mantha's home in Oakland, what a beautiful place they have. Thank You Andre and Pauline!

As I gave my reports on the trips for the year, it occurred to me how much easier my job would be if more of the members would let me know what they want to do. I reported on our upcoming trip to Gold Beach Oregon, and several members thought that it was too far; however I spoke to Howard and he tells me that twenty members went to Arizona for the Western States and that took over a week, and it looked like they all had a good time. So I would like your help so we can make the club in the image that you would like it. Please contact me with your ideas and any place that you would like to go or do. Contact Gordon Cummings at 510-758-1925 or Richard Halk at 530-677-2253.

Richard Halk, Acting Editor

Wow !!

I had never been to the Western States Jaguar Event and Cis and Andre Twisted my arm until I committed.

Since it was such a Blast I will have to find some way to repay them.

My Favorite wife did the drive over with me, but I had to put her on a plane to come home early (work gets in the way of so many things <sigh>). Therefore I did the drive home alone without my co-pilot to guide my thinking.

I remember leaving Phoenix and coming to a long stretch of 2 lane highway with 35 or 40 cars and trucks between me and the front of the line. My thinking was “this is going to take forever to get home behind these pokey’s.” My Jaguar sensed my feelings and took it as a personal challenge to get the tail lights out of my sight. I saw the traffic coming down one hill and entering the valley. Before we got to the hills on the other side everyone got to see what the tail lights of a Jaguar looked like!! Ahhh … I wish you had been there!!

I just got back from a Excellent Veal Scaloppini Dinner that Cis and Bernie Hosted. A good turnout including one member attending their first meeting, plus some other members we have not seen in a while. I hope all of our members will make a few events this year. I feel like I am hogging all of the Fun Events.

Our next Event is hosted by Faye and Lew Edwards and is a drive to Mt.Diablo. We had this scheduled last year, but got Snowed Out.

I feel sure this will not happen again, since John Blackburn has spoken to Lew about issuing Snow Tires, just in case.

Richard Halk has some of the coolest driving events lined up this year that I have seen since I became a member. Along the way we will enjoy Excellent foods and spirits. I hope you will join us and not have to read about them in the Jagazette.

Contrary to belief on some purists, Jaguar are made for driving. Not for sitting in storage waiting to be inherited.

As I have said many times “This is a Group of Wonderful people who like to Fellowship, have Fun and drive Jaguars.”

I am ready for a Fun Year of Driving Our Jaguar. I hope you are too !

As Always, Our JaguarCleaned UpWrapped UpAnd Full of PetrolSee You on The Road !!!

Happy 75th birthday to British automaker Jaguar! As a birthday present, they've actually given us something new to drool over: a 780 hp mostly-electric supercar capable of hitting 250 mph with a whopping 500-mile range, all wrapped in a body inspired by the 1966 XJ13, the car the chief designer calls “possibly the most beautiful Jaguar ever made.”

Gold Beach or BustMay 12

Are you ready for the great adventure? I did this trip several years ago and what a blast. We saw all kinds of wildlife in-

cluding Brown Bear fishing for salmon and several Bald Eagles with their nest. The tour guides are very friendly and knowl-edgeable. The food was fantastic and the accommodations were adequate.

Rogue River Jet Boats/ Rogue River Tour Boat Rides

Jet Boats, Tour Boats or Mail boats river trips are divided into 2 sections by where they operate on the Rogue River. For more information on Rogue River Jet Boats and the areas trips are offered check these links Middle Rogue River and Lower Rogue River.

gold Beach Oregon - Rogue River Jet BoatsThe lower Rogue River at Gold Beach and Wedderburn is where

the nations original Jet Boats began operation. In 1895 when a mail contact was issued to the carry the mail by river which started the upriver passenger boats operations with Rogue River Mail Boats.

Here on the Lower Rogue River Jet Boats will skim the Rogue's waters 52 miles up into the Wild and Scenic area going far into the Federally protected Wild and Scenic Section. Normally no power boats are allowed in a Federally Designated Wild Section, however motor powered Jet Boats were operating here long before Wild and Scenic protections were put in place. Rogue River Jet Boat travelers will be treated to Wild River, Wild Lands and abundant Wildlife in a safe and exhilarating whitewater trip upriver.

Rogue River Mail Boat Trips were the first to operate with passengers being taken upriver and back with prop driven boatsJerry's Rogue Jets was the first to use Hydro Jet Boat technology to allow upriver passenger travel in low water periods.

Jerry's Rogue Jets Reservation & Information (541) 247-4571 / 1-800-451-3645 Gold Beach, Oregon

Our boats will take you far upriver into the back country of this fabled place. Our guides will tell you of the mountains, of the animals, of the Native Americans, of the early European settlers, and of the river itself.

114 YEARS OF UNINTERRUPTED MAIL SERVICE TO THE UPRIVER AREA! One of the oldest and most popular traditions on the Oregon Coast began in 1895 on the Rogue River. It was born humbly, arising out of the need of remote settlers and miners living in the vast wilderness of the Rogue River Canyon to communicate with the outside world, to send and receive letters and packages to and from distant relatives, to stay associated with friends far away.

From this need to communicate, intensified by isolation, evolved a tenacious human enterprise, struggling to overcome forces of nature in a whitewater world. The history of that achievement is a chronicle of dedication and vision of heroism, punctuated by tragedy, accented with humor. It is a tradition that has endured and grown into one of the most unique and famous visitor attractions in the West.

The celebration of a centennial is a goal sought by many companies, a rare landmark reached by few. The Rogue River Mail Boat Trips is proud to have accomplished this goal in 1995, having provided 100-years of continuous postal service on the Rogue River between the Gold Beach-Wedderburn and Agness post offices.

Sealed for Life XK8 TransmissionThis is an edited version of an artcle by Rod Doone for Jaguar

Entusiasts Club MagazineAs the owner of a 10 year old Jaguar XK8 convertible with 60,000

miles on the cloc, I am keen to maintain the car in good condition. Hav-ing checked through the service records, and after reading the many articles published on the XK8 and the sibling XKR, an area for concern was the 5 speed automatic transmission. There are no scheduled main-tenance procedures apart from oil level checking. Having a background in engineering and with experience in rotating electrical machinery leads me to question the rational of the "sealed for life" maintenance set out for this automatic transmission. Yes, there is no doubt that there has been a vast improvement in the quality and durability of transmis-sion fluids over the last 20 years. However, it is difficult to accept that after 10 years and 60,000 miles the transmission fluid was still up to the job. Some wear must take place and can the internal magnets and filters catch it all, or are particles suspended in the oil furtheraccelerat-ing wear? I decided that I needed to know the condition of the oil after this amount of service so decided to have the fluid changed and have the old oil analysed by an independent company.

The process of draining and refilling the transmission is not straight-forward, requiring both time and patience. My mechanic drained out as much oil as possible then flushed through with new oil until clean oil flowed through the drain hole. With the drain plug in place new oil was slowly pumped into the transmission. This is not an easy operation as the available space between the filling orifice and sub frame is fairly tight. Once the oil started to flow from the filling aperture the car was lowered and the engine started. The car was then raised once again and more oil pumped into the transmission. The car was then lowered again and the transmission put through all positions to ensure that both transmission and torque convertor were completely filled. The engine was run for several minutes for this process to be completed.

Two oil samples (the new and the old ) were mailed off to The Oil Lab. As you would expect the old oil was opaquely black whereas the new oil is clear and bright red colour. Diagnosis

Visible debris present. Abnormal wear evident. Advice: Change oil if not changed when sampled. Lubricant is comparable with new sam-ple supplied as reference oil.

The elemental analysis indicated abnormal levels of Aluminium, Copper, and Tin with a cautionary note regarding Ferrous content.

So what does all this mean?

In conclusion, the results of this exercise clearly show that those of us who are Jaguar enthusiasts' and want to keep our ageing XK8's well past any warranty period would do ourselves a favour by changing the automatic transmission oil.

An interesting fact from this examination is that the old oil, in sub-stance, compared very favourably with the new oil. What had reached unacceptable levels were the metallic particles now in suspension in the old oil. It is reasonable to conclude that when these particles exceed certain limits the wear rate of moving parts will rapidly increase. No doubt without any action taken the durability of the ZF transmission is such that it might survive beyond 100,000 miles but do you want to take that risk? Cost of replacing transmission oil, say, twice approxi-mately $600 - $800. Cost of replacing transmission (rebuilt) $5,000?

A venturesome group of Jaguar people began accumulating, for a feel good drive. On a Thursday at Harris Ranch area

off Highway 5 for a Caravan Drive to Phoenix for the Western States Event.

After a hardy Breakfast we were joined by others, filled up Jaguars with petrol and were off to 29 Palms for the night before proceeding into Phoenix Saturday in time for the Banquet. We drove through Bakersfield and everyone was beginning to get a wee bit hungry again. Andre ( our leader at the time ) had assumed the Awesome task of finding a suitable place to dine.

Knowing what a Gourmet Andre is the group settled in to wait for him to choose the proper place for our fine group. Around Barstow he suddenly turn right and there we were in the parking

lot of the famous “Bun Boy” Restaurant. At least Andre said it was famous !! The salad and burgers were fantastic and huge, guess why the place is famous. After a Tour of their Famous Book library we were off to 29 Palms for the Evening. If you are ever in Barstow on the old route 66 stop there. You won’t be sorry.

We all had so much lunch we were still stuffed so At 29 Palms we all skipped dinner and convened at Cis and Bernie’s place for the evening dining.

Again. A Hardy Continental Breakfast and we were off to tour the Joshua Tree Forest on the way to Phoenix. We stopped for a Gourmet Lunch at a rest stop provided by everyone in the group and then headed to Phoenix, but not before asking Howard to be Caravan Leader ( probably an error ).

We drove along on the great Arizona highways which allow faster driving so the group got a little scattered. (continued on page 9)

(continued from page 8)

But we all made it safely to the hotel in Chandler in time to check in and register for the event. What a sight to see all the beautiful Jags that filled the parking lot of the resort. I don’t think I have ever seen so many pretty ‘Cats’ in one place. We all attended the AGM banquet along with several other club members who had arrived earlier in the week. Most of us retired early after driving for two days.

Sunday was a gorgeous day, highlighted by the Western States Concours. It was a beautiful day to wander around the area and view the many great cars. It attracted lots of locals to view the lovely display of Jags.

Sunday evening ended with a short walk to a Mexican restaurant for a Dinner and Mariachis.

But we are just beginning the fun. Monday was a choice of rally or tour followed by a British Invasion/ 60’s party. Many were in costume some with wigs. (Pauline Mantha, Rita and Rich Skillman

were decked out). The music was great and the group enjoyed the dancing as well.

Each evening we gathered in someone’s room for drinks and snacks before joining the larger group. What a great way to get to know people!!

Tuesday was a Slalom during the day and the evening ended with a banquet and more of our club joined in the festivities. Our group took a number of awards ( Andre, Ed Knox, Paul Petach and Rich Skillman ) and filled several big tables. The final event ended with a Farewell breakfast and most of the group took off for a drive back home. A enjoyable time was had by all. There was something for everyone.

Driving, viewing great cars, lots of fellowship, good food and some even went shopping.

If you were not there you missed a wonderful trip!!!

Page 12 10,000 MILES IN A HyBRID

10,000 MILES IN A HYBRIDBy Gordon Kenney

Rockly Mountain Jaguar Club, Volume 45, Issue 03, March 2012 www.rockymountainjaguarclub.org

Nearly all automobile manufacturers are making hybrid or electric cars (including Bently, Ferrari, Lincoln, Porsche, BMW, etc.) as a

means to make a large increase in the efficiency (gas mileage) of the ve-hicle. Even Jaguar has displayed “concept” hybrids and soon most cars will contain hybrid components. I have been involved with electric vehicles for 35 years and this article will share some recent experience with a modern hybrid.

My Experience: For several years I have driven a hybrid for the Red Cross one day per week. A day would consist of several trips from residents home’s to a medical or shopping appointment and back.

The driving was typical city driving with about half of those miles on I-25, I-70, or 6th Ave and the rest on side streets and in residential areas. Speeds ranged from stop-and-go in neighborhood areas to 65-70 mph on Interstate sections; typically about 130 miles a day. The air- conditioning was used heavily in the warmer months. I had previously driven electric cars in the late 70’s and early 80’s (which were very poor cars) and have also driven the new Chevy Volt.

The Cars: The hybrid cars were Toyota Prius’s, both the earlier Prius 2 model (2004-2009) and the improved Prius 3 model (2010 - 2012). These cars were first sold in the U.S. more than 10 years ago and there are more than a million in use here. All of these were four door hatch backs and are five passenger mid-sized sedans.

These hybrid cars have two sources of energy to drive the car. They have a 1.8L gasoline engine with a gas tank AND an electrical motor with a storage battery. This type of hybrid can travel on electric power only, gaso-line engine power only or on a mix of the two. The battery is charged by the gasoline engine as needed and also by “regenerative braking” when the brakes are applied. They cannot be “plugged in” to recharge the battery. Much of the time the gasoline engine is not running in city driving because it shuts off anytime the car is coasting, is stopped or needs just a little en-ergy to maintain speed.

Why are they so efficient? Hybrids are 2 to 3 times more efficient than conventional cars in urban use largely because our non-hybrid cars are so wasteful. But there are three technical factors why hybrids get so much bet-ter gasoline mileage.

1) the gasoline engine is not running much of the time (it’s off when coasting, when stopped or traveling slowly).

2) whenever the brakes are applied, most of the energy that was used to accelerate the car up to speed is captured and used to recharge the battery. Stop-and-go driving, which is extremely wasteful in a conven-

tional car, becomes very efficient and a hybrid gets better mileage in city driving than open road travel. This is just the opposite of a con-ventional car where the highway mileage is much higher than city use.

3) the hybrid car is designed to be efficient. Its shape has low drag and it’s accessories like the A/C, power steering, water pump, etc., are electric powered and use no energy except when actively being used and low- rolling resistance tires are often used.

The Result: Most days the fuel consumption with the Red Cross cars would be in the mid-50 mpg range. Some days would be close to 60 mpg and some days the average would drop below 50 mpg. This mileage is dis-played on the cars instrument display and its accuracy was often confirmed by calculation when the gas tank is refilled. In this type of service most non-hybrid mid-sized cars would get in the low 20 mpg range and most SUV’s would get less than 20 mpg.

Understanding the Alternative Energy Car Choices: Facts and figures Alternative energy cars can be divided into three groups: The “hybrid”,

as exemplified by the Prius, uses both a gasoline engine and an electric mo-tor with a storage battery. These cars can travel no more than a mile or two at low to moderate speeds by battery only. They have small gas tanks (10 gallon) but can travel several hundred miles on a tank of gas.

The “electric”, exemplified by the Nisson Leaf, the Tesla and the Frisker, is driven ONLY by an electric motor and an (expensive) battery; they have no gasoline engine. They can travel from 50 miles up to 200 miles on a charge, the actual distance depending on how large a battery is used. Itmust be recharged several hours from a plug-in supply whenever the battery is depleted.

The “range extended electric”, exemplified by the Chevy Volt, has a bat-tery that gives it from 30 to 50 miles on the battery alone, but also has a gasoline engine that starts to recharge the battery when needed. The range is 300 to 400 miles per tank before the battery is depleted and the gaso-line tank is empty. Electric propulsion is used whenever there is adequate charge in the battery and the gasoline engine turns “on” only when nec-essary to recharge. The battery is usually recharged by being plugged-in overnight.

The batteries: Currently there are two types of batteries used. The Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries are used in the Prius and

many other hybrids. They are moderate in cost (a battery pack costs from $1,500 to $3,000) but can only propel the cars a short distance. They have such low capacity it is not worth-while to “plug” them in overnight to re-charge. The batteries in the Prius are warranted 8 years or 100,000 miles and have proven to be extremely durable with very few battery failures.

Li-Ion batteries pack a lot more electrical energy into a smaller space then do the NiMH but are quite expensive and can represent nearly one-third of a cars cost. They are used in cars which have significant range on battery power only such as the Leaf, Volt, or Tesla. Li-Ion powered cars are “plug-in” models which can be recharged by plugging the car into a normal household electrical outlet. (continued on page 13)

Page 1310,000 MILES IN A HyBRID / Maxwell Classic Car Show(continued from page 12)

What I have learned: My experience has taught me two truths and has raised one puzzle.

One truth is that the modern hybrid car is a very capable car and most drivers would not be aware they were driving a hybrid vs. a conventional car. Acceleration, speed, noise levels, features, braking, handling, etc. are very typical for a mid-level car. These are neither luxury nor high-perfor-mance vehicles but are not “stripped-down” models either.

The second truth is that the hybrids get 2 to 3 times better gasoline mileage than similar non-hybrid cars. The conventional cars I own are de-lightful vehicles but are very wasteful of gasoline. When I put in 15 gallons of gasoline in a non-hybrid vehicle I KNOW that only about 5 gallons will be used to provide the transportation needed and the other 10 gallons will be wasted.

Equally bad, those wasted 10 gallons will add pollution to the environ-ment, increase our dependence on foreign oil, hurt our balance of trade and that money will not be available for other more useful purchases.

The puzzle is that many people respond in a “negative way” to hybrids. The internet and letters-to-the editor have frequent angry statements, usu-ally backed up by half-truths or outright lies, about hybrids. People com-plain that they are slow, dangerous, ugly, and wasteful and they don’t make enough noise or that they can “only drive a V-8”. I just don’t understand.

Lastly, the Red Cross always needs more volunteer drivers. Let me know if you might be interested.

JCCV SUMMER TOUR Another Ingram tour: plan now to take part!

August 10–15Doug & Eileen Ingram invite you to participate in our sixth JCCV

Summer Tour. We’re back after a couple of years off, and as in the past our tour will offer spectacular scenery, beautiful Jaguars, wonderful driving roads, lots of interesting things to see and do, great food and drink, and best of all, the company of a terrific bunch of people. Our tours are very well organized, and while the pace is generally relaxed with reasonable distances each day, we will provide opportunities to stretch our Jaguars’ legs a little. And we take plenty of breaks each day to stretch our own legs as well. Our prime objective is just having fun. Planning has to start now, so check the itinerary and consider coming along. There’s good reason that these tours have been very popular in the past, so don’t miss out. There’s no need for a firm commitment yet, just let us know that you are interested.

This will be another great JCCV Summer Tour! If you are inter-ested, might be interested, or need more information, act now. Book-ings for our group must be made very soon. Don’t wait - call Doug at 250-216-6070 or email [email protected].

WANDERINg IN WASHINgTON We’ll start in Victoria on Friday, August 10th, take the Coho ferry

to Port Angeles, travel south on the west side of Puget Sound and ar-rive in Tacoma that afternoon. Staying in Tacoma the 10th and 11th, we’ll attend the Seattle Jaguar Club’s show and concours at the LeMay/America’s Car Museum on Saturday, August 11. The LeMay Museum will be a highlight of this tour. Check it out at www.lemaymuseum.org. Sunday, August 12th will see us head east into the Cascades, through Mt Rainier National Park, around Yakima and on the canyon road to Ellensburg where we’ll spend the night. Monday, August 13th will be an easy day, with local touring and attraction visiting, ending in the al-ways entertaining Bavarian town of Leavenworth. On Tuesday, August 14th we’ll head east onto the plains, visit the Grand Coulee Dam, then west and north back into the mountains to stay the night in the unique western town of Winthrop. Wednesday, August 15th we’ll head west on the spectacular North Cascades Route, with plenty of stops to take in the magnificent scenery, and carry on to the Anacortes Ferry for the trip back to the Island. If you don't live on Vancouver Island, join us along the way. You are welcome to participate in all or part of our tour.

(Editorial Note: Doug Ingram has contacted me and said that if anyone from our club wishes to join the tour they are welcome, I have had the opportunity to have lived in a couple of the towns that the tour is going to visit, so I plan on doing the tour if at all possible. Richard Halk, Acting Editor)

Page 16 Hybrid Concept

aluminum for the current XK and XJ models and with planned models including the next XK generation’s architecture. Reducing mass is a priority, but the concept is not a light-weight, scaling around 1600 kg (3530 lb).

Its 279-kW (374-hp) V6 2995-cm³ engine puts out 92.7 kW/L (124 hp/L), achieves 450 N·m (332 lb·ft) maximum torque, and is closely related to the company’s established 4.0-L V8. Jaguar’s extensive expe-rience of supercharging road car engines is being applied to the new sports car.

The decision to use a KERS system is a significant element in achieving an on-demand performance boost, low emissions, and some short-range pure-electric drive capability. Sending out the right envi-ronmental message, while meeting market demand for high perfor-mance is a challenge for all performance-oriented products of OEMs and Jaguar has stated that it will design “sustainable sports cars.”

Built on a 2622-mm (103.2-in) wheelbase, the concept is 4445 mm (175.0 in) long, 2048 mm (80.6 in) wide, and 1297 mm (51.1 in) tall. It is shorter than any previous Jaguar since the 1954 two-seat XK120.

The motor generator (using brake energy regeneration) is inte-grated into the car’s eight-speed ZF auto gearbox and is linked to a 1.6-kW·h battery pack positioned behind the seats. This helps achieve a 50:50 weight distribution for the car. The electric motor contributes an added 70 kW and 235 N·m (173 lb·ft).

The driver has a “Push to Pass” steering wheel mounted button to activate the full hybrid state when maximum acceleration is required. The 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time is quoted at 4.4 s.

A significant departure from recent Jaguar fashion is the use of a conventional gear selector stick in place of the rotary type that has not received unanimous acclaim. The rotary is regarded as more appropri-ate for sedan models rather than a pure sports car like the C-X16.

The car’s cockpit has a wrap-around effect and use is made of car-bon fiber. But the material is mainly applied as a styling element and probably would not be used in a production version of the car unless its cost could be reduced.

Stuart Birch

The Jaguar C-X16 concept makes extensive use of aluminum in for its architecture, though weight is about 1600 kg (3527) for the small two-seater. A hy-brid system with KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery Sys-tem), aluminum architecture, new supercharged 3.0-L V6 direct injec-tion gasoline engine with auto stop-start, top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph), and CO2 emissions of only 165 g/km are the core aspects of Jag-uar’s new C-X16 concept, which looks set for production for MY2013.

A star of this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, it will be manufactured in convertible and coupe forms, both of them two-seaters. The coupe concept has a side-hinged tailgate like the XKE (E-type) coupe's and a clamshell hood. Arguably, the front-engined rear-drive C-X16 is a 21st Century successor to the XKE, but there is almost nothing about its aesthetics that echo that car’s distinctive shape.

Jaguar decided to leave aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer’s XKE de-sign (based on his rounded 1950s racing D-type) in the era in which it was created and eschew any overt retro touches. As a road car, the svelte XKE was very different from anything else of its time. Says Di-rector of Design, Ian Callum: “Jaguars have always been dramatically different.”

Which is why the C-X16 is of a new era. Jaguar’s use of past visual cues in the previous-generation XJ sedan and the S-type when that ap-peared a decade ago, were not as stylistically advanced as they might have been. Callum added that the C-X16 now moved the company’s current design language on to the next generation, “creating a car that is the very essence of future Jaguar performance.”

In line with Jaguar’s inter-model technology sharing and use of modularity, the C-X16 will incorporate knowledge gained in the use of

Dec—Xmas Party

Roger to work on possible event at Lake Tahoe

Jagazette must contain timely information on all club events. We need to get feedback from club members so planned events will draw more participation. Tell us what you want .

TREASURERS REPORT.—Our club is in good financial shape. Checking $14, 000. Savings $ 15, 000. Bank accounts are not producing any income .Should the money be invested in another financial instrument? Treasurer's report is approved by motion and carry.

EDITORS REPORT—The bulk mailings have been modified to supply those copies wanted by recipients. Richard Halk to check on number of copies to Cole European. Richard Halk has made

contact with the various advertisers to collect fees due the club for ads in the Jagazette. Dudley will follow up on Richard's work and further contact advertisers. There is a need to keep track of other car events going on in our area which might impact our event schedule.

AGM MEETING—Bill Baum and Dudley Smolen report on the AGM .

While there has been substantial belt tightening the cost of operating the JCNA has exceeded the yearly income. There has been need to tap savings to cover those costs. Savings are not producing income. A dues increase of $8.00 per member was approved by motion and carry. Our club voted against an increase.

Much work has been done to improve the JCNA web site making it more responsive to club and individual needs.

The rules for forming new clubs were updated as were the many rules for concours events.

LEW'S REPORT.—Diablo is a go for April. Xmas dinner is a go for early December.

Howard asks for someone to coordinate Judge training. Roger will look into the judging situation and make recommendations.

ROGER'S REPORT.— Roger will update the list of "lifetime members." There is a question as to what a "lifetime member" is and how it impacts on the club financially. Each Board member is to reason on this subject and be ready to discuss it at the next Board meeting.

OLD BUSINESS—Roland Quintero is to report on the status of the club roster project which was approved in January.

NEW BUSINESS—Our JCNA site needs to be checked and updated as required.

How will we handle the $8.00 increase in dues to JCNA, approved at the AGM?

Board members are to give thought to how the club can get and maintain new members.

MEETING ADJOURNED—next meeting May 9th 10:30 at Bill and Barbara's
