We are now in the Lenten season. Our sacrifice can also be a helping hand extended to the needy in our community. Bring a few cans of food to mass with you and place them in the Blue Bin food drive container located in the Gathering Space. A small sacrifice on our part can make a huge difference to those who have little or nothing. Blue Bin contents are transferred to Salvation Army weekly, your contribution to the cause does not collect any dust. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile effort. CELEBRATING THE SEASON OF LENT

STATIONS OF THE CROSS - A BEAUTIFUL TRADITION

The Stations of the Cross are images of stories about the passion and death of Jesus Christ. Most of the stories which make up the Stations were drawn from Scripture. Other images, such as Saint Veronica wiping the face of Jesus, were taken from tradition. The route traditionally held to have been taken by Jesus to his death at Calvary (Golgotha) in Jerusalem is called the Via Dolorosa or the Sorrowful Way. The Stations were erected in local churches as a way of bringing this prayerful experience to those who could not travel to Jerusalem.

Stations of the Cross are celebrated every Friday during Lent at 6:15 pm in the church. Everyone is welcome to come beforehand at 5:30 pm to have soup with your fellow parishioners in the Faith Formation Room. Please make the Stations of the Cross a part of your Lenten journey!

GUIDELINES FOR FASTING & ABSTINENCE DURING LENT

Fasting and abstinence are practices that are particularly appropriate during Lent as we join ourselves to the penitential practices of Christ. Fasting and abstinence also put us in solidarity with the lived reality of our brothers and sisters in the less fortunate parts of our world who live with little opportunities for food or other necessities we often take for granted.

The Church reminds us that abstinence is a penitential practice consisting of refraining from the consumption of meat and is to be observed by all Catholics who are 14 years of age and older. Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and the Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are also days of fasting for ages 18 - 59 (inclusive). The Church defines fasting as one regular meal during the day, and two smaller meals which if added together would not exceed the main meal, as well as no eating between meals.

Note: If individuals are unable to observe the above regulations due to ill health or other serious reasons, they are urged to practice other forms of self-denial suitable to their condition.

May God Bless You This Lenten Season!
