Mobile phone: A mobile phone or mobile (also called cell phone and hand

phone,) is a long-range, electronic device used for mobile voice or data communication over a network of specialized base stations known as cell sites.

In addition to the standard voice function of a mobile phone, telephone, current mobile phones may support many additional services, and accessories, such as SMS for text messaging, email, packet switching for access to the Internet, gaming, Bluetooth, infrared, camera with video recorder and MMS for sending and receiving photos and video, MP3 player, radio and GPS

USERS: The number of the users of mobile phone in Pakistan has

reached from 0.3 million to about 90 million during the last

eight years. According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority

(PTA), the ratio of mobile phone users all over the country has been increased from 0.22 per cent in 2000 to 54.70 per cent in June 2008

Telecom Industry in Pakistan: Despite a difficult time for

Pakistan economy, generally the telecom sector exhibited positive but slow growth in terms of revenue, subscribers and teledensity.

Teledensity of the country jumped from 44.06% in 2006-07 to 58.8% in 2007-08. in 1HFY09 it reached to 60% Highest in the Region.

China mobile: China Mobile has already invested $500 million in

Pakistan and has plans to invest more. The company plans to increase coverage area by several thousand miles, including highways with

the capacity of 20m subscribers. The Director Marketing, CMPak Limited, Salman

Wasay told Dawn that the company planned to invest $1000 million in 2009 under network expansion.

Mobile Snatching: Mobile Snatching - defined as the snatching of a

mobile phone, by showing guns and harassing the owner of mobile phone.

Theft of mobiles are also considered as mobile snatching.

Mobile Snatching:

According to CPLC statistics:

58021 mobiles were snatched in 2008.

On average almost 11 mobiles are snatched after every hour.

These figures may be a half of the total crime as people generally do not report these accidents.

Town wise Snatching:

While reviewing the data regarding cell phones snatching and theft during the past four months, Sadar Town is on top with 2,774 cellphones, the second risk town is Gulshan-e-Iqbal with 2,370, followed by Clifton (1,722), Jamshed (1,500), Landhi (1,125), Liaquatabad (1,100), Korangi (1,050), New Karachi (1,020), and North Nazimabad (900) towns.

During driving : Mobile phone use while driving

is common but controversial. Being distracted while operating a motor vehicle has been shown to increase the risk of accident. Because of this, many governments have made the use of a cell phone while driving illegal.

Danger for our health: Over 1.5 billion people around

the world use a cellular phone; however, chances are most of these users are unaware of the damage they may be doing to their bodies. According to a four-year research project focused on studying the effect of radiation on human and animal cells, researchers found that the radio waves emitted from a cellular phone may harm body cells and damage DNA in laboratory conditions.

Conti……. Mobile phones radiate and receive electromagnetic

radiation in the band of 800 - 900 MHz’s this is non-ionizing radiation, but thought by some to have adverse health effects.
