MY BOSTONThe Most Romantic Place In The City

by Munkhzue Sukhbaatar

Boston Common is the most romanticplace in the city. It is the smallnature among the high buildings in

the center city. There are many trees, beau-tiful flowers, green lawns and some birds. Also there are many squirrels. Some of themhave beautiful tails, some have little, ugly

tails. I like to see how they hide their food(nuts). I think their front legs work verydexterously and quickly. Before I came toBoston I had never seen so many squirrels inone place. I like to sit down in the greenlawn and read something or do homeworkwhen it is sunny. I heard in the autumn alltrees change their color. I haven’t seen ityet.

My Favorite Restaurantby Conchita Marcellan

In this paragraph I will speak about myfavorite restaurant here in Boston. Thename of the place is Sofia’s. When I am

inside this place I am thinking that I am inSpain.

Sofia’s has four floors. In the first floor, there is the restaurant, where you can eattypical Spanish food (for example: tortilla depatata, tapas, crema catalana, jamon, pancon tomate), and you can drink Spanishwines and if you prefer French champagne.

In the second and third floors you have adisco. You can dance to Latin Music. Andif you love dancing, somebody invites you todance with him. So, you can learn how todance to Latin music. In the last floor, youhave a roof deck, where you can drinksomething, but if you prefer, you can danceor speak with your friends.

So, I like this place because it’s the sameplace that I can find in my country, Spain. And I often go to Sofia’s because I loveLatin music and you can find all people inthis place.

On the Blackout Nightby Yuki Takahashi

One Night, I was drawing a pictureof a fairy. It was a fairy of light andshe wore a beautiful glittery dress.

She had fair hair, blue eyes and rosy cheeks, and she was so cute! Probably the picturewas overrated, but I was pleased with my pic-ture and I took a long look.

Suddenly it became dark. There was ablackout! It was a stormy night, so maybethe lightning had struck.

When my eyes got used to darkness, Istood up and looked for a candle. After afew minutes, I could find an little old candle.I lit the candle. The candle threw low lighton my desk.

At that moment, a weird thing hap-pened! On the desk, next to the candle, there was a little object which gave out light. At first, I felt scared, but the next moment, Iwas very surprised! That object was a fairlywith beautiful blond hair and a shiningdress, the same as my picture!

“Oh!! What a strange thing I see!! Ican’t get over it!!” I involuntarily shouted. The fairy turned her head toward me andshe dropped a curtsey.

“I’m sorry to scare you, but I’m very gladto meet you.” She said in her little sweetvoice. I felt very joyful and I asked her,“What’s your name, honey?”

“My name is Christal,” she said.

“Oh, it’s a very lovely name!! I have acrush on you!”

I held out my hand and she rode on it.

“I’ll guide you to my town! To myfavorite restaurant, record shop, tearoom, park and my school. After that, I’ll intro-duce you to my friends! They will be sur-prised and and be glad to see you. Heregoes!” I shouted excitedly.

But she shook her head and said with asad voice, “I want to do so, but it’s impossi-ble. Look, the candle is runnning short. When that candle burns out, I will disap-pear.”

“Oh my God!! What can I do to hold upthe disappearance?”

“No, we have no way. Oh, the candle isburning out. It’s time to say good-bye.”

“Oh no! Don’t go, Christal!”

“Good bye. I was very happy to see you.Thank you...”

Just at the moment, her body becameparticles of light and no one was on myhand.

Suddenly, it became bright. The black-out ended and the electricity lit up. And onmy desk, there was an exhausted candle anda white paper without a picture. Do youthink it was only a dream or an illusion?Maybe so. But I believe it was a real thingand someday, I’ll meet with her again.

“The Tell-Tale Heart” An Ending

by Yasuko Fujii

Have you read “The Tell-Take Heart”by Edgar Allan Poe? In this horror storya young, disturbed man was obsessed tothe point of killing, or at least cutting up,another human being. Although heburied the body parts beneath the floor,he gave himself away to the policebecause he believed he could still hearhis dead victim’s heart beating!

Strangely, the policemen were surprisedwhen I told them about the body. They stared at me. One policeman

made a sign to the other men with his eyes topull up the boards. I knew they alreadynoticed that his heart was beating because Icouldn’t hear anything except the terriblenoise! However, they were surprised againwhen they found the old man’s body.

Two policemen took me out of the houseto jail. I felt peace and freedom from his hor-rible eyes and heart. Then I could sleep wellin prison.

But I heard the beating of his heart againafter three days in jail. “Stop!” I cried. Thebeating was getting louder and louder.“Stop! Stop! Stop!” I cried again and again. The policemen came to my cell. Though Iasked them to help me, but again they onlylaughed at me. I had heard the noise all thetime for those three days. Nervous. I wasvery nervous. Finally, I couldn’t stand thehorrible noise. I wanted peace and quiet. I bitmy tongue strongly and as forcefully as Icould. I had a taste of blood. A moment later, the beating of his terrible heart stopped.

Now I feel peace. I hear the policemancrying, “He killed himself” I am not nervousnow... Everything is black.

The Ghost in the ShellRafael Ulloa

Polished metal surfaces and solid diecast parts melted with precise anddetailed plastic pieces. Bright paint

bathing his hard curves and also his sharpedges. Japanese design? -Who knows- clas-sic, perhaps with a similar aspect in relationto others that everybody had seen before. But with his own soul, mystic and deep. Assure of what he is as a dog can be sure thathe is not a cat.

When my hand was reaching the end ofthe antenna installed in his elbow, my dreamwas shattered by the merciless radio-alarmclock. On a regular Saturday without anything to do in the morning, I wouldn’t madeany effort to open my eyes and would ignorethe alarm (synthetic rhythms from prefabmusical groups that are already dead beforethey born). I would slept until noon. But thedream was inside my mind causing anguishand anxiety in some part of myself. I wasregretting the fact that a long time ago hewas in my hands and I made with him thou-sands of different things. I abused himbecause he was strong and after that I lethim go... I lost him... I sent him away withthe ones who ran away from our lives whenthe other ones arrived. Not precisely metalones, not necessarily plastic ones, not alwaysJapanese.

Some hope was inside me and I went outin search of him remembering the place I

encountered him a long time ago. Dressingup for the day out, I remembered that whenI saw him for the first time I rejected him, maligned his kind and ignored his detailedexistence. How foolish I was. But I decidedto recover him. I wanted to be with his glo-rious race again. I could hardly wait to foundhim like I found him the first time: In thecircular glass case inside a colored box withJapanese characters that were big and bright.I needed to recover something lost to feelthe same excitement I felt before one moretime.

I arrived at the place where he lived onceand I noticed that he wasn’t there anymore. All those Japanese silhouettes of metal andplastic and perfection and more metal andmore secrets were vanished. They weretrapped in one time where perfection was avalue over quantity. They were pushed to asmall corner by hundred of imitators withcheap solutions and poor aesthetics.

Maybe he and his peers are around here. For sure they are hidden in some places. Some of them are still in the land of the ris-ing sun and others are on the shelves of theeccentric collector with enough money torecreate his dreams. At that moment and atthis moment, the only thing I have from himis that ghost in a metal shell surrounding mymemories.

The Cat on the TricycleRafael Ulloa

Iwouldn’t get worried if I saw multicoloredspiders with long thin legs dancing to themaniac rhythm of African drums. Also I

wouldn’t get worried if my night table talked tome about his usual tales that he always used totalk about only to make my bed get mad. I wasreally scared this time because a white cat ridingthe red tricycle from my childhood days wentround and round across my bed.

The weird thing was that the cat rode thetricycle with great level of expertise and thefeline seemed to be so relaxed that he glanced atme and gave me a fiendish smile. I get so scaredthat I decided to call the leather-clad midget andhave him watch over my sleep while he ate juicygrapes next to my bed. Again the cat on the tri-cycle entered the room to ride his tricyclearound my bed, but this time he stopped next tothe midget and, getting a few of the midget’sgrapes exploded in evil laughter. The midgetwas so astonished as was I. After the cat left theroom the midget reacted in a violent way: danc-ing rap. That was his usual way to discharge hiswrath.

Usually cats are egocentric and mean ani-mals, so I wouldn’t be so surprised if that cat

entered my room only to catwalk around my bed,but why ride my childhood tricycle?Furthermore, how about that evil smile and psy-chotic laughter without a simple “meow”? I did-n’t feel safe anymore, not even with the leather-clad midget eating grapes all night next to mybed. I wished I had the protection of the howlingwoman before was too late and my mind collaps-es with all the weird things happening around.

For the third time, the cat entered my roomriding the tricycle, and this time the devilishbeast was making some sort of talent exhibitionriding standing over the tricycle, mounted withhis hands in the air.

From that moment until the morning, thenight was quiet without any other visit from thecat on the tricycle. When the first sunrays of themorning created a shadowy mood in the room, Ithought about what happened at night and I fig-ured out that I was completely stupid. I didn’thave to worry about the cat’s visits and I evendidn’t need to call the leather-clad midget whowas eating grapes next to my bed. No cat whoserespects himself could dare to enter my room inmy childhood tricycle. That red tricycle ranaway from my house with the neighbor’s dog.Now again, time for the morning revision.

Spooky Worldby Jun Kondo

The trip to Spooky World is one of themost exciting events I’ve participatedin during this semester. Spooky World

is a place where you can have an experience ofa big American traditional holiday, Halloween.

Spooky World is only open in the month

of October. It has four haunted houses, ahaunted hayride, shops, games and museums. It is a very good place to experienceHalloween. It is more fun than scary. Evenon the bus ride there and back, we had fun. Itwas nice to get to know other students. It wasfreezing outside, but it was still a good trip.
