NEWS Center to Treat Jaw Dysfunctions The University of Florida College of Dentistry is setting up a Dental Occlu- sion and Facial Pain Center that is ex- pected to be fully operational in Janu- ary, 1985. Faculty members say the Center is to be nationally unique in its broad scope of patient care services, research and teaching programs. Dr. Parker Mahan, the newly appointed Center director, has devoted over 22 years to research and treatment of facial pain and disorders of the masticatory system. The Center will provide the latest in surgical and non- surgical treatment and diagnostic tools including a "chewing machine" to help pinpoint the origin of facial pain and im- paired jaw function. The Center's staff will include a variety of health profes- sionals able to meet specialized needs of patients including nutritional counselors, physical therapists, speech pathologists and other dental and medical specialists. In Memoriam The AAE was saddened to learn of the recent death of Dr. Franklin Pineda of Del Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico. Dr. Pineda, a dedicated member of the Association for over two decades, was a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and a member of the International Rela- tions Committee. In Mexico, his adopted country, Dr. Pineda was an active and effective member of many dental organizations including the Academia Nacional de Es- tomatologia, whose members are elected in recognition of their role in raising the standards of the profession. Dr. Pineda was an outstanding athlete and had an impressive collec- tion of medals and loving cups. His published studies, including some ex- haustive ones on root canal mor- phology, are quoted frequently by other authors of scientific articles. An exact- ing clinician, Dr. Pineda was dedicated to the rigid discipline of patient care, to dental organizations, to sports and to his family. He will be missed by all who knew him. Erratum In the October issue of the Journal of Endodontics an article was printed on policy changes of the American Board of Endodontics. In the third paragraph explaining Board eligibility, the first re- quirement read "the written examina- tion must be submitted...". This should have read "the written ex- amination must be passed within three years following the year in which Board eligibility is established".
