Advanced Graphic Design Scope & Sequence Wagner High School Ms. Cawley Room R102 210-662-5000 E-mail: [email protected] At the beginning of the course students will be reviewing the tools that will be utilized to create design projects and learning intermediate to advanced design techniques. Students will be working in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. At the end of the course students should be able to use these programs to create projects at an advanced level. Students will learn / review: Various software applications Design concepts Advanced use of typography in various types of projects Color principles The best programs to use for various projects The image quality required for print versus web projects Various technology terminology Copyright laws Various file formats and their use based on the target application and environment (web vs. print) Advanced problem solving (desktop publishing methods, identification of tasks, selection of color and fonts, applying design concepts, time constraints, etc.) History of Graphic Design Print terminology and how to write print specifications UNITS I. Design concepts and rules a. 10 Principles of good design b. Grids used in newspaper publication and desktop publishing c. When to use jpeg, gif and png d. When should I use Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator e. Visual Hierarchy / Principles of Design f. Color Theory

At the beginning of the course students will be reviewing the tools that will be utilized to create design projects and learning intermediate to advanced design techniques.
