‘Next Step’ YOUR PATHWAY INTO A DEGREE The Next Step program is an alternative pathway for students who have not been able to enter into a degree through conventional methods. Students studying in the Next Step program have a large selection of units to choose from, offered by each of the four faculties. Units that are successfully completed via Next Step will be credited towards the student’s degree at Macquarie University. Students who complete the program and meet set criteria will be guaranteed a Commonwealth Supported Place (HECS) in one of the available 17 pathway degrees. ADMISSION CRITERIA Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia. Applicants who have completed the HSC or equivalent qualification in the past two years will need a minimum ATAR of 50.00; selected degrees require a higher ATAR of 60.00 or 65.00 for admission. There are no ATAR requirements for mature age students (HSC completed more than two years ago). PROGRAM STRUCTURE To secure a guaranteed place into a bachelor degree, students are required to: 1. successfully complete four units (12 credit points); and 2. receive an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of either 2.0, 2.25 or 2.5; and 3. complete specific units outlined by the faculty offering the unit (if required). GET INTO YOUR CHOSEN DEGREE SOONER High achieving students in the Next Step program are recognised and rewarded for their achievements. Students who complete two units (6 credit points) and receive an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher can articulate into their chosen pathway degree sooner – after just one session. DEGREES AVAILABLE VIA NEXT STEP With a GPA of 2.0 (a ‘pass’ average) Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Biodiversity and Conservation Bachelor of Commerce* Bachelor of Information Technology Bachelor of Information Technology – Games Design and Development Bachelor of Science Bachelor of Social Science Bachelor of Teaching (Birth to Five Years)* GPA of 2.25 Bachelor of Engineering* Bachelor of Environment GPA of 2.5 Bachelor of Arts – Media* Bachelor of Arts – Psychology Bachelor of Business Administration* Bachelor of Human Sciences Bachelor of International Studies Bachelor of Science – Psychology * To be eligible to apply for these degrees, students must complete specific units identified by the relevant department offering the degree. Details available on the Next Step website mq.edu.au/nextstep. Please be aware that students who receive two fail grades in the Next Step program will be excluded from the program and will not be permitted to continue the pathway. APPLICATIONS SESSION 1 ADMISSIONS • on-time applications – mid-January;

• late applications – early February

SESSION 2 ADMISSIONS • on-time applications – early June;

• late applications – early July

Application fee for on-time applications is $75 (non-refundable); late applications $275 (non-refundable).

TUITION FEES Tuition fees for the Next Step program must be paid upfront in full each session. No Commonwealth Supported Places (HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP) are available.
