CENTREPORT EXPRESS July 2014 New Water Treatment Plant to Service CentrePort www.CentrePortCanada.ca By Riva Harrison A new $43-million water treatment plant will be built to service CentrePort Canada as well as several municipalities outside of Winnipeg - a major infrastructure investment that will help the inland port attract larger-scale industrial development and create jobs. The June 25 announcement was made by Canadian Heritage and Official Languages Minister Shelly Glover, Municipal Government Minister Stan Struthers, Rural Municipality of Rosser Reeve Frances Smee, and Diane Gray, president and CEO of CentrePort Canada Inc. It took place at Rosedale Transport, one of more than 30 new companies to CentrePort which have been anxiously awaiting water servicing. “This is extremely important for CentrePort companies like Rosedale, but also critical to our ability to attract larger operations that require water and cannot self service,” Gray said. “Investor interest in CentrePort is high and now we can capitalize more fully on that momentum. It will help us generate new private sector investment, which ultimately leads to new jobs right here at home. This will be transformational.” The project, which has gone to tender, is being funded one-third each from the federal government, provincial government and a group of municipalities whose water needs are also growing. The new plant, which is being designed by Stantec and will treat water from the Assiniboine River, is an expansion of the Cartier Regional Water Co-operative, which serves communities located in the municipalities of Cartier, Grey, Headingley, Portage la Prairie, Rockwood, Rosser, and St. Francois Xavier. “Our government understands that Canadian communities need strong and modern infrastructure,” Glover said. “We remain focused on creating the right conditions for economic growth and prosperity.” Struthers said the project is part of Manitoba’s $5.5-billion infrastructure plan that also includes $800 million in highway projects that support trade in and out of CentrePort, Winnipeg and the capital region. The RM of Rosser, home to a large portion of CentrePort, is working with the inland port on a number of development issues and this milestone is another piece in the “success of our CentrePort partnership,” Smee said. REGIONAL WATER TREATMENT SOLUTION: A new $43 million water treatment plant was announced by Canadian Heritage and Official Languages Minister Shelly Glover; Municipal Government Minister Stan Struthers; Reeve of Rosser Frances Smee; and Diane Gray, CentrePort president and CEO. Other dignitaries included federal MP James Bezan, Chris Lerm of Rosedale Transport, and Don Streuber, chair of CentrePort’s board of directors.

A new $43-million water treatment plant will be built to service CentrePort Canada as well as several municipalities outside of Winnipeg - a major infrastructure investment that will help the inland port attract larger-scale industrial development and create jobs.

More than 50 people attended the May meeting of the CentrePort Landowners’ Association where plans for a new residential community were outlined in greater detail by Genstar Development Company.

The new 500-acre residential community will be located in St. James, in the southern section of the CentrePort footprint. The area is ideal for residential development as it is outside of the NEF contours for the airport and has a “natural boundary” in CentrePort Canada Way.

“We think this land is well located and very complimentary to industrial development,” said Jerry Klein, Vice President of Genstar. “Significant progress has been made and there’s lots of positive support for this project.”

Attendees also received updates on the new Rosser zoning bylaw, the wastewater service-sharing agreement between Rosser and the City of Winnipeg, and plans for CentrePort’s new common-use rail facility.

The CentrePort Landowners’ Association was launched in 2014 to facilitate consultations and engage landowners, developers and CentrePort-area businesses on planning matters. For more information, contact Kate at 204-784-1300 or [email protected].

A Houston-based manufacturing company is the first business to commence operations in a $4.8-million multi-tenant industrial facility that was recently completed at CentrePort Canada.

The Goodman Manufacturing Group has opened nearly 12,000 square feet of warehouse, showroom and office space in Brookside Business Park, one of CentrePort’s main industrial parks.

“We had some customers in Winnipeg that we were serving from other branches but we saw an opportunity to grow our business here,” said Branch Manager

Mike MacCorby. “We selected this location at CentrePort after several years of looking at Winnipeg real estate. It offered us the quality of facility that we were not able to find elsewhere within the city.”

Goodman is the first tenant of a new, 44,000 square-foot multi-tenant building that was recently completed by Calgary-based Olexa Developments, the developer of the 150-acre industrial park. The facility is CentrePort’s first-ever speculative building, an important milestone in efforts to increase the industrial capacity at Canada’s inland port.

“Increasing lease options on spec shows investor and developer confidence in what we are building here at CentrePort,” said Diane Gray, president and CEO of CentrePort. “Congratulations to Mike and his team at Goodman on their new operation. We are thrilled to have Goodman expanding into our marketplace and calling CentrePort home.”

Robert Scaletta, manager of industrial properties at Shindico Realty, which is marketing Olexa’s multi-tenant building in Brookside Business Park, said he’s working with businesses that are best positioned to take advantage of the benefits of CentrePort – such as having direct access to the new CentrePort Canada Way expressway, or tapping into Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) programming that is unique to CentrePort.

The new building has space available that is suitable for a customs bonded warehouse operation, and any potential tenant or tenants would be eligible for CentrePort’s help in accessing FTZ programs such as applying for customs-bonded status.

“Working with CentrePort, we have been able to successfully close deals – which is great for our city and great for our province,” Scaletta said.

TRANSPORT MINISTER VISITS BISON, CENTREPORT

Federal Transport Minister Lisa Raitt stopped in at Bison Transport at CentrePort last week to announce a review of Canada’s transportation legislation and introduce David Emerson as the chair of the review process.

Raitt and Emerson noted CentrePort’s progress and pointed to the inland port’s development as an example of how important transportation is to the economy.

DTZ Winnipeg recently celebrated its 10th anniversary as one of the city’s leading global real estate firms.

“Now 10 years later, we are a new force in Winnipeg.”

DTZ is also a major force at CentrePort and works closely with the corporation on attracting new business and private investment.
