Fuel & lube oil treatmentfor utility and power applications in O&G segment
• Fuel oil trends:
-Decreasing quality
-Same quality globally
• Reasons for lower FO quality than specified:
-Long transportation and storage times
• Risks with untreated Fuel oil:
-Ash content causing engine wear
-Water from deposits in tanks causing
corrosion
-Catfines, abrasive wear
-Corrosion from Sodium and Vanadium

Heavy Crude Oil Dehydration
Heavy oil production is increasing
Drivers
• High oil price justifies heavy crude oil development
and production
• Light oil discoveries are in minority
• Diminishing light oil production
Enablers
• Developments in horizontal drilling and production
• FPSOs and new riser technology (deep waters)
• Increase in refinery capacity and technology
• Developments in thermal production technologies
(e.g. SAGD)

Heavy Crude Oil Dehydration
Separation challenges
• Small density difference between oil and water
• Tight emulsions
• Solids (sand, clay, waxes, resins and asphaltenes)
• High viscosity
In traditional separation equipment
• High heating requirements and CO2 emissions
• High chemical consumption
• Long retention times – very big tanks
• Solids build up in equipment over time
• Difficult to reach product spec – considerable wash
water consumption to reduce salt content
www.alfalaval.com
Heavy Crude Oil Dehydration
The centrifugal solution
• Handles heavy and viscous oils with emulsions
• Lower separation temperature than traditional
separators means
– substantially reduced heating requirement
– substantial savings in fuel costs
– reduced CO2 emissions
– reduced chemical consumption
• Three-phase separation of oil/water/solids with
continuous solids discharge
• Optiphaser control system sustains high
performance with varying feed composition

Produced Water TreatmentOil & Gas Application
Why use produce water treatment
• Produced water trends:
- Increasing environmental issues/problems
- Tougher legislation
- Conventional equipment will have problem to
perform due to increasing HCO production
• Reasons for treating produced water with
centrifuges:
- To fulfill down hole water injection and overboard
water specification
- Oil production with high pressure drops will
increase the oil in water emulsion stability on the
water treatment side.
- Conventional equipment will need to be bulky
and long retention time needed.
- Energy, weight & space savings

Why use slop oil treatment?
• Slop oil trends:
-Increasing environmental issues/problems
-Tougher legislation
• Reasons for treating slop oil:
-Slop oil stored in tanks and ponds is an
environmental problem
-Reject streams are taking tank farm space
- Increased oil price globally
- Oil recovered can be sold at profit
- Waste can be minimized
