CEOS SST-VC Status
Kenneth S. Casey and Anne O’Carroll on behalf of the SST-VC members
CEOS VC/WG day16 September 2015
2
• The SST-VC spent the last year focusing on a narrower number of activities specifically identified in the CEOS Work Plan:
• SST-VC meeting #4 took place at ESA-ESTEC on 24th July 2015 (following GHRSST-16).
• Supported invitations to NSOAS and CMA China (CMA sent regrets), ROSHYDROMET (Russia, no reply).
• ISRO (observed SST-VC #4) and further invitation to be sent.
• Satellite Oceanography User Workshop, Melbourne, 9-11th Nov 2015https://www.ghrsst.org/ghrsst/Meetings-and-workshops/satellite-oceanography-user-workshop/• Possible SST-VC presentation to IOVWST in Sapporo, May 2016
Main Activities over last year
3
• 77 Group for High Resolution SST (GHRSST) products now in archive• Collection-level and granule-level discovery and access fully web-service
enabled (CSW, OpenSearch, OAI-PMH plus DAP, WMS, WCS)• Search the GHRSST collections or browse the full product table, both
dynamically and automatically updated• Updates to CWIC are fully operational• GHRSST Data Specification (GDS) Version 2 fully operational • Products span September 1981 – September 2015• 4.97 million netCDF data files, 94 Terabytes in collection and growing• Served over 200,000,000 files, amounting to over 800 TB of information,
to over 130,000 users*• GHRSST Regional/Global task sharing framework looking toward future
* Statistics through January 2015 for LTSRF and May 2014 for GDAC
Progress on Data
4
• SST-VC developing a whitepaper on the next generation SST Virtual Constellation, including necessary on-orbit assets, measurement methods (MW and IR, Geo and Polar), climate/NWP applications, fiducial reference measurements, and data management systems
• Whitepaper Status:- Draft in preparation and book captain identified- Review of progress took place at GHRSST-16 (July 2015) - Publication targeted for later in 2015
Progress on White Paper
5
Inputs to white paper include three priorities of the optimisation of the SST constellation:
1) Provision of dual-view reference IR radiometer-> Copernicus Sentinel-3 SLSTR planned for November 2015
2) Complete latitudinal coverage of IR radiometers from geostationary orbit-> ISRO and hopefully CMA
3) Redundant capability of passive microwave radiometers-> More progress needed. Contact with NSOAS (HY-2); ISRO -> Considerations by space agencies-> Need to ensure continuity of existing capability-> How can the coordination of agencies be facilitated to ensure
continuity and redundancy of passive microwave radiometers?
