Program Utzilal Tijonikel INTERCULTURAL TOURISM AND SOLIDARITY WITH CENTRO EDUCATIVO PAVAROTTI VISIT! WWW.UTZILALTIJONIKEL.ORG INTERCULTURAL TOURISM The concept of Intercultural Tourism offers the opportunity to strengthen the intercultural exchange and learning among visitors and the local population. INTERCULTURAL VOLUNTEERING Participants support various activities that take place in Centro Educativo Pavarotti. As a volunteer you can teach or assist in classes where students learn music, Spanish, English, Kaqchikel, carpentry, maintaining the grounds or in the computer lab. The kitchen is also another great place to get involved to help the restaurant at the center. VOLUNTEER PROFILE • Minimum Spanish language skills. • Ability to adapt to new environments, to another culture, and different way of life. • Willingness to collaborate • Ability to work in a team • Ability to work with youth • Professionalism in your work • Ability to be responsible in your work at the Center • Creative, flexible, adaptable, and open to a new cultural experience. • Ability to understand the situation of youth in the environment in which they live while respecting their customs, culture and lifestyle. • Commitment to stay involved in the project for the total agreement. • It is not necessary to have training or experience in Psychology, Education, Teaching, Social Education, or Social Work but useful if you do. •No previous experience is necessary. RIGOBERTA MENCHU TUM FOUNDATION Rigoberta Menchú Tum Foundation designed this program so that groups can participate in different aspects of the Mayan culture through conferences, workshops, and other activities. CENTRO EDUCATIVO PAVAROTTI (CEP) The program takes place at Centro Educativo Pavarotti, a school for children ages 12-15, in San Lucas Tolimán near Lake Atitlán. The Center offers room and boarding as well as meals to visitors and participants of the program. The proceeds support the Rigoberta Menchu Tum Foudation at Lake Atitlan. SUPPORTING ORGANIZATIONS Centro Educativo Pavarotti is supported by the Rigoberta Menchu Tum Foundation, Peace Jam, and the University of Colorado Denver to name a few. This mural located at the Center shows the different organizations that support Centro Educativo Pavarotti.
