ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE DEGREE
In Early Childhood [06600]
Child Development Coordinator: Jacqueline Bellamy [email protected] Dean of Technical Education: Chrystal Overton [email protected]
This degree plan includes the 38 hours of general education requirements generally completed during the first two years of a four-year educational program. Along with a minimum of 19 hours in child development/early childhood courses, an additional six hours may come from either liberal arts or science or child development courses. Students completing the Associate in Arts Degree may transfer to any senior-level state institution and expect to find their lower division general education requirements satisfied. Students should consult the four-year institution to which they are planning to transfer and carefully select courses that meet the requirements for that school. This can be done while working with their advisor at Western. Students completing the Associate in Science in Early Childhood Degree are prepared for employment opportunities in Head Start programs, child care centers, family child care homes, church-related child care, and as teacher assistants in the public schools.
