Puncturing with ultrasoundUltrasound application for positioning of intravenous cathetersis recommended in international guidelines. It enhances safety in anatomical investigation and puncturing. When using the ultrasound probe, sterility and the correct dimensions of the equipment are important factors.

Anti-pathogenic Certofi x® catheterA patented combination of an anti-microbial agent (Polyhexanide) and a-thrombogenic chemical group (Polyethylene glycol and Polymethacrylate) creates a highly eff ective catheter surface. The adhesion of bacteria which is normaly the starting point of a catheter-related bloodstream infection is eff ectivly pre-vented. A high concentration of hydrophilic groups lowers the risk of thrombus aggregation on the catheter surface.

The principles of Certofix® protectThe Polarization of Certofix® protect catheter material destroysthe cell wall structure of microorganisms in case of surfacecontact. The base material of the central venous catheter Certofix® protect consists of polyurethane (PUR). All lumens, including the hub and the outer surface of the catheter, are coated with a long-chain polymer based on methacrylat. Catheters contain hydrophilic side groups such as polyethylene glycol and antiseptic polymeric biguanide side groups.

Certofi x® SafetyIncreased safety for users

A broad variety of puncture needles and scalpels for incisions are used. The operating space and sterility during catheter application often complicates the immediate disposal of sharp instruments. With Certofix® Safety, B. Braun is enhancing the product portfolio for safe venous access.

The Seldinger puncture needle has an active safety mechanism. The safety clip surrounds the needle tip as soon as it is deployed, so medical personnel is well protected during operation and disposal. It is possible to activate the clip, while the cannula is guided over the guide wire.

User benefits�� Small design of safety mechanism does not affect application procedure of central venous catheters�� All components needed for safe catheters placement included for puncture and incision – a safety Seldinger needle as well as a scalpel with sharps protection mechanism

During application, the plastic housing with safety clip is located next to the needle hub. Once the guide wire has been placed in its desired position, the safety clip, covered by the hub has to be forwarded onto skin level. While simultaneously activating the safety mechanism, the needle is withdrawn with the index finger.

After the protecting cover has been removed, the scalpel is moved forwardwith the help of the green button until it snaps in and pushed back after the incision.

Seldinger Needle Safety

Puncture needle with active safety mechanism to protect against needle stick injuries. The integrated clip does not affect puncturing procedure and can be activated single-handedly.

Scalpel Safety

Stable, easy-to-use safety scalpel with safety mechanismfor the securing of the blade after incision.

When the tip of the needle is reached, the safety clip activates automatically and covers the needle tip already.

Before the blade is finally secured, the scalpel can be held in a „parking position“ enabling it to be handed over to other medical personnel.

Once the needle has been completely pulled back behind the wire, the safety clip envelopes the tip irreversibly.The needle and the plastic hub can now be disposed in the usual way.

Once the blade has been withdrawn to the hilt/to the end of the press-button function, the safety mechanism activates. The scalpel is safe to be discarded.
