INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA (IIUM)

There are also from Muslim minority countries such as Germany, China, South Korea, Japan, India, United States of America, Russia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Burma, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and the Philippines.
MUSLIM AND ISLAM IN CAMBODIA Islam is a religion
embraced by a majority of the Champa and Malay minorities in Cambodia. As late 1975, there were 150,000 to 200,000 Muslim in Cambodia. Persecution by Khmer Rouge eroded their numbers. Now there are almost 1 million Muslims.
EDUCATION MISSION FOR MUSLIM IN CAMBODIA
Kampong Cham is the capital of the Cambodian province of Kampong Cham, 123 kilometers northeast from
Phnom Penh.
Kilo 7 Village, Steug Trong District is in Kampong Cham Province. There are around 400 families residing in this village. Most of them earn their living with farming and
fishing.
In the village there are about 500 students, whose classes are conducted in dilapidated spaces under
houses. Since there is no proper school building, the education of the children suffers under adverse weather
conditions. And with teachers teaching part timely, educational achievement is far from being satisfactory. The teachers plant paddy and tap rubber as their main
income, thus effecting the educating efforts.
InsyaAllah, sponsorships and contributions from more fortunate Malaysian Muslims will help the construction
of the village Educational Centre. Having better facilities for both students and teachers, standard of living will
eventually ascend.
The educational assistance should be a long term social development project.
The focus of International Community Service (ICOS) 2013 is to develop an Education Centre for Cambodian Muslims in Kilo 7 Village, Steug Trong,
Kampong Cham which will serve as a stepping stone for future development
Education will bring awareness and empowerment thus enable them to better their state of living with the advance
of education as vehicle for growth.
The ICOS 2013 initially began with the development of infrastructure and followed by curriculum/modules and
training for teachers.
1. Phase 1 will be focusing on the building infrastructure such as school: library, teachers room and activity centre.
2. Phase 2 will include training for the teachers and providing regular pay for them by searching for sponsors i.e. organizations or individuals.

OUR HOPE AND OUR PLEDGE
We have firm conviction that Muslims in Cambodia will only advance with proper educational, and the facilities are preciously lacking. The Cambodian government at the present moment is frank in allowing supports and assistance from fellow Muslims from outside the country. The opportunity should be advantageous. We are inviting corporate and individuals to join us in the project by virtue of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). We will facilitate the contributions and ensuring utilization of the fund with regular supervisory visits to the site. By request of donors we can arrange site visits for them. We hope to get sufficient fund and we believe prosperous generous Muslims in Malaysia will make this mission a success, InsyaAllah.May Allah bless us all.
