The "ilah" word, which is always translated “God”, in the al-Qur’an used to expressed a variety of objects that were

raised or overlooked humans, for example in the QS.al- jatsiyah: 23 :

so have you ever seen anyone who makes his desires as hisGod  

In the QS.al-Qashash : 38, the word "ilah used by Fir’aun for himself
