Sun-Filled Days, and Fun Soirées! Dear Friends,
Although we’ve only just begun the month of March, it seems the winter weather is behind us and we’re already enjoying the milder temperatures of spring! Perhaps we feel it getting warmer, too, because so many of our resi-
dents and families continue to demonstrate a warmth for one another and the Chelsea Jewish community. This past month, our residents at Cohen-Florence-Levine Estates celebrated “Wear Red” day to raise awareness for women’s heart health, and the residents and staff at Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home, together with residents from Cohen-Florence-Levine Estates, Florence & Chafetz Home for Specialized Care, and Leonard Florence Center, joined together to honor Chelsea Jewish’s long-time Activities Director, Jack Zimmerman (see photo/story on page 2). It’s clear that as the days get brighter and longer, we at Chelsea Jew-ish will continue to pass along a little bit of sunshine to one another and to our families as we gear up for a blossoming spring season with Purim and Passover
Sincerely,
Barry Berman, CEO

“Go Red” (continued)The residents of Cohen-Florence-Levine Estates, and the Florence & Chafetz Home for Specialized Care, donned their brightest and boldest red shirts for the “Go Red For Women” campaign, encouraging and rais-ing awareness of heart disease in women. According to the AHA, car-diovascular disease claims the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year, more than all cancers combined.
Often dismissed as an “older man’s disease” the Go Red For Women aims to harness the collective energy, passion, and power of women to band together and wipe out heart disease, the number one killer among American women. By wearing red, the residents of Cohen-Florence-Levin Estates and the Florence & Chafetz Home for Specialized Care took charge of their heart health, acknowledging the risks of heart disease in women, while informed staff gave instruction on how to recognize the signs of a heart attack.
AT COHEN-FLORENCE-LEVINE ES-TATES AND FLORENCE & CHAFETZ HOME FOR SPECIALIZED CARE
Admiral’s Hill Assisted Livings recently enjoyed another Family Day celebration this past February 26th. Activities included arts and crafts and musical performances for the whole family. Family portraits were taken and a magician entertained all!

Thank you, Jack! The Chelsea Jewish Foundation recently celebrated “Jack Day” with beloved Activities Director, Jack Zimmerman. In February, surprise events took place at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home and the Leonard Florence Center for Living.
Thanking him for over 15 years of being the bestaround for all our residents and families, Jack arrived first to the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home, where he was expecting another day of activities and song, but entered the Nursing Home to notice more guests than usual, and was welcomed with a “surprise!” Jack was presented with a plaque (pictured), and staff recounted much deserved appreciation. Shortly after, Jack went to the Leonard Florence Center (believing the day’s events were over!), and was again welcomed with a “surprise!” by residents and staff. With Jack’s family in attendance, cake and live music played by the one and only, Jimmy Honohan, it was truly a special day for everyone involved.
As Jack brings a level of kindness, joy, and youthful vigor to everyone’s day, the Chelsea Jewish Foundation wishes to “Thank you, Jack, for be-ing you!”
Nancy Fallon, MSW Director of Plant OperationsCHELSEA JEWISH NURSING HOME
Nancy joined the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home last November and from her first day, has made residents and staff alike enjoy her company! As a social worker for over twenty years throughout the North Shore communi-ties in both a long term care and assisted living setting, Nancy brings extensive experi-ence, knowledge, and understanding to residents and families she serves at Chelsea Jewish. When asked about what drew her to her new role, Nancy noted the Chelsea Jewish Foundation’s excellent reputa-tion in the healthcare community of Greater Boston and beyond. She excited and grateful to have become an integral part of it. “Chelsea Jewish has such a great reputation that I look forward to all the won-derful future happenings – I am so happy to be here,” said Nancy.
Lijie Zhao, RN, BSN Chinese Program DirectorCHELSEA JEWISH COMMUNITY
As a strong member of the Chelsea Jewish Community leadership team, Lijie Zhao has been working at Chelsea Jewish Community as the Chinese Program Director since 2011. Having served as a nurse since 2007, Lijie came to the Foundation with the hopes of building a language and cultural care program for Chinese-speaking individuals seeking home care, personal care, and hospice services. “It is very rewarding for me to see our Chinese Pro-gram grow through our Grell Home Care, Richman Personal Care, and Shwartz Hospice agencies.” Indeed, Lijie and the Chelsea Jewish Com-munity team are celebrating the upcoming opening of a new satellite office at Rogerson House in Jamaica Plain in April. “We are thrilled to have a new office for our nurses and aides to check in throughout the day as they visit clients. It is a great location and resource for every-one!” For inquires about the Chinese Programs available, or to contact Lijie directly, call 617-913-7576 or email her at [email protected].
