Aligarh is situated at a distance of 130 km. South-East of Delhi on Delhi-Howrah Rail route and the

0 0Grand Trunk Road. The lattitude is 27 54’N and longitude is 78 05’E. The climate is hot any dry in summer

and cold & dry in winter with an intervening rainy season. The Institute is located only 3 km away from the

main city.

The Food Craft Institute, is located in the Campus of renowned Central University of India, known

as Aligarh Muslim University. The Institute had been setup under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism,

Government of India in 1984, as an autonomous institute registered under the societies Registration Act

1860 and is governed by an Executive Body ‘Board of Governor’s which consists of the representatives of

the Central Government, State Government, and Aligarh Muslim University. At present the Institute is

financed through a Grant-in-Aid by the Department of Tourism, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Since

establishment, it has been awarding it’s own Diploma and Certificates. However presently all the

Diploma Courses have been affiliated with the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering

Technology (NCHMCT), Noida and their rules of admission, examination and award of Diploma etc. will

apply. The Institute offers the following courses, Post-Graduate Diploma, Diploma and Certificate.

HOW TO GET ADMISSION FORM

GENERAL INFORMATION

The prescribed Application Form and Admission Guide can be obtained from the Institute on cash payments of Rs. 300/- or by bank D/D or crossed I.P.O. or in order to get the Application Form and Admission Guide by the registered post, a Bank D/D or crossed I.P.O. of Rs. 350/- drawn in favour of the

Application form complete in all respect should reach the Institute office on the above mentioned address either by hand or by post.

The application must be accompanied by the self attested certificates.

(ii) Date of birth certificate, if it is not mentioned in the school or college certificate.

(iii) Reserve Category certificate from Additional District Magistrate or Sub-divisional Magistrate or Tahsildar, if candidate claims admission in SC/ST/OBC category.

(iv) Transfer certificate & migration certificate will be submitted in original.

(v) Gap certificate if any.

Failure to submit any of above documents will lead to rejection of application form.

Intimation is sent only to the selected candidates by the registered mail. However candidates in their own interest should contact the institute to know their admission status. Failure to show up on the designated date and time in order of secure admission, will lead to cancellation of the candidature and admission will be offered to the next eligible candidate. FCI, Aligarh will not be responsible for postal delay.

(2) The selected candidates shall not be allowed to complete admission formalities in absentia and the offer of admission shall stand cancelled.

(3) All admissions, would be provisional and shall be confirmed subsequently. Even after confirmation, the admission can be cancelled, if is proved beyond doubt that the admission was obtained through fradulent means, and his/her fee will be forefeited.

(4) The institute, however, reserves the right to refuse admission to any individual without assigning any reason. A candidate shall not be entitled to claim admission as a matter of right even if he/she is otherwise eligible.

(5) The Principal reserves the right to postpone or cancel any of the course without assigning any reason.

(6) Seats shall be reserved for students belonging to SC/ST/OBC category as per the U.P. Govt. Rules.

FEE STRUCTURE

ADMISSION PROCESS

UNIFORM

The students selected for admission shall be required to deposit the full fee in one installment at the time of admission. Fee can also be deposited through bank receipt provided by institute at the time of admission. Under no circumstances cash payment will be accepted. Fees once deposited shall not be refunded except for caution money.

In addition to the courses fee mentioned for each course, candidate will deposit a caution money of Rs. 2500/- at the time of admission. Caution money will be refunded after the completion of the course and the declaration of results. It should be collected within three years, otherwise will stand forefieted.

Fee prescribed for each course may vary. Courses which are affiliated to the National Council, Examination Schedule will be sent by the National Council, and the students will have to deposit exam fee separately as required by the National Council. For non affiliated course such as PGDAOM, PGDDHFS separate exam fee Rs. 1500 will be charged.

If the successful candidate does not report within 7 days from the date of the commecement of the classes the admission/registration will be cancelled & the next eligible candidate from the waiting list will be registered & no refund of fees in any case will be refundable except for caution money.

Identity card will be issued by the Institute. The student must always carry the identity card and present it for inspection when demanded. No student will be allowed to attend classes, examinations, outside catering and permitted to go on educational tours without the identity card. It is also mandatory for library book issue. Loss of identity card should be reported to the Principal/Librarian without any delay. The duplicate Identity card will cost Rs. 50/-.

1. Seminar library is entirely meant for the benefit of the current enrollment students of Food Craft Institute (University Polytechnic Campus), Aligarh.

2. A student can be enrolled as a member of the Seminar Library on a payment of registration fee of Rs. 100/- which will be charged at the time of Admission. He/She will be issued a membership card for the duration of one academic year upon showing the receipt of Admission Fee.

IDENTITY CARD

3. Books will be issued to the bonafide students of full academic current session strictly on showing the valid current identity and library card for a period of 15 days which can be reissued for another 15 days, if not in demand.

4. If the books are not returned in time, a fine of Rs. 1/- per day per book (for 07 days) and there after Rs. 2/- per day per book, shall be charged for 15 days.

5. In no circumstances a book shall be retained by the student for more than 40 days.

6. If a book is mutilated/defaced or lost by the students, the cost of the book + late fine + binding charges etc. (if any) will be charged fom students. If the book is available in the market, than it has to be replaced by latest edition/reprint.

7. The fine/cost of books shall be deposited in cash with the library.

8. Loss of library books or membership card must be reported in writing to t he Librarian immediately.

9. The proper use/custody of the books (s) is the responsibility of the member student concerned.

10. Students must deposit all the books in their possession 10 days prior to the mid-term & end-term examination.

11. Failure to return the books within the stipulated time as indicated above, students will not be allowed to appear in the Mid/term-end Examination.

12. Final diploma certificate, migration certificate etc. will not be issued until all the dues concerning

books are cleared by the students.

13. Strict action will be taken if any breach of law is discovered.

Lockers will be provided to the students of Food Production and Bakery & confectionery only.

The students must attend all theory and practical classes of the Institute and also visit catering establishment and take part in indoor and outdoor catering parties arranged by the Institute. Students must not absent themselves from any Institutional curricular and extra curricular activities.

As per rules 75% attendance in all courses is compulsory.

In case of more than 7 days absence of one month (without any notice) from the classes, the name of the student shall automatically be removed from the rolls.

The medical and the fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner shall be produced immediately of his/her joining the classes after illness.

The examination will be held at the end of the academic session (April to May).

Semester exams is applicable for all courses & the examination will be held at the end of semester.

The distribution of marks in each paper will be as follows

(i) Minimum pass marks in each written/theory paper 40%

(ii) Minimum pass marks in practical/project and viva/voce examination 50%.

(iii) Minimum pass marks in sessional (aggregate) 50%.

(iv) For Diploma Course passing criteria will be as per the rules of NCHMCT.

AWARD OF DIVISION

INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

(I) A candidate will be awarded a First Class with Distinction if he/she secures a minimum of 75% of the total marks.

(ii) A candidate will be awarded a First Class if he/she secures a minimum of 60% of the total marks.

(iii) A candidate will be awarded a second division if he/she secures a minimum of 50% of the total marks.

(iv) A candidate will be awarded a Diploma / Certificate in Pass Class if he/she secures less than 50% of the total marks.

(v) A Candidate who passes all the examinations within the prescribed duration of course will be awarded a division as per sub rule (i), (ii), (iii) & (iv) above.

1. The Institute has a Placement Cell headed by a Senior Faculty for the facilitation of the training placement for the students.

2. Industrial training is the integral part of the course curriculum for its completion students required to undergo the training in Hotels, Motels, Restaurants, Hospitals, Airlines, Travel Agencies and other catering establishments.

3. A student, who has passed the examination will be declared pass but Diploma/Certificate will be awarded only after the completion of practical training in the industry. In case a student fails to complete his/her training at the designated establishments to the satisfaction of the principal/training and placement officer, his/her diploma/certificate may be withheld till such training is completed.

4. Students are sent for Industrial Training from the months of May-June every year except certificate course in Food & Beverage Service.

5. If the training is arranged by the institute, students have to give an undertaking and agree for the followings.

(a) He/She will avoid to leave the training in the middle without any permission.

(b) He/She will inform to the Training & Placement Officer or the concerned authority

of the hotel, if he/she leave training in the middle.

(c) He/She will resume duty on due date. If processed on leave.

(d) He/She will refrain themselves from any activity subversive of law & order in the hotel concerned.

(e) He/She will avoid to give any chance of complaint against them from the hotel management regarding misconduct, theft etc.

(f) He/She will complete their training in all the departments of the hotel, if required by the Hotel Management and shall not claim, as a matter of right to work in the same trade in which he/she has undergone training at the Institute.

If he/she is found to be involved in any of the above mentioned noted activities, he/she will not only loose the chance of training facility arranged by the institute but also will face the disciplinary action including withholding of the Diploma/Certificate by the institute for a year or financial penalty upto Rs. 2000/- or both.

1. The students who have been detained from appearing in an examination, because of shortage in attendance or have failed to clear the minimum prescribed marks for passing in sessional, and desire to seek re-admission / continuation may submit application on the prescribed form to the office, 25 days before the commencement of the classes, failing which or application received late may not be considered. All such students re-admitted/granted continuation will be required to pay full prescribed fee.

2. The principal will consider the cases of re-admission/continuation in accordance with the rules laid down in this regard. The Principal may or may not grant the re-admission/continuation and his decision shall be final and binding in this regard.

3. In case the students failed/dropped the examination of the Institute shall be treated as an ex-student. Such candidates shall be allowed to appear in the next examination after submitting examination form and prescribed fee. Overall a

student will be allowed only three attempts to clear the examination.

4. Supplementary examination may by conducted by the institute for the P.G. Diploma and Certificate Course. For other Course affiliated to Council, the examination policy will be as per their rules.

(i) The conduct of the students in their classes as well as in the premises of the Institute shall be such that it will not cause any disturbance to the fellow students or to other classes. The Principal may expel a student whose conduct is found not satisfactory and the fee paid shall be forfeited.

(ii) Smoking is strictly prohibited in campus/off campus.

(iii) No society/Union shall be formed in the Institute and no person/leader shall be allowed to address a meeting without prior permission of the Principal.

(iv) No student shall be allowed to participate in party politics in the premises.

(v) No student should communicate any information or write about the matter dealing with the Institute’s administration to the press.

(vi) Students are expected to take proper care of the Institute properly and help in keeping the premises neat and clean. Any damage done to the property of the institute by breaking furniture, window pane, equipment etc. is a breach of discipline and liable for fine and disciplinary action.

(vii) If for any reason, the continuance of a student in the institute is in the opinion of the principal detrimental to the best interests of the Institute, the Principal may ask such a student to leave the institute without giving reasons and such decision shall be final and binding on the student.

(viii) No student can leave institute premises during the working hours without a written permission from the principal or section in-charge.

(ix) Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances. The decision of the Principal in such cases shall be final.

(x) Non-complinace of the rules of the Institute can

The following disciplinary action may be taken by the institute in dealing with the misconduct on the part of students. These are

(i) Cancellation of Scholarship in part or in full.

(ii) Expulsion shall debar the student from being re-admitted to the same Institute.

(iii) Where a student is rusticated he/she shall not be re-admitted to any similar Institution till the expiry of the rustication period.

(iv) Every punishment awarded to a student shall be recorded in the conduct register of the Institute. This may be mentioned in his character certificate to be issued to him on demand.

1.1 In order to be eligible to take the Council’s examinations (any semster/term or course), a candidate must have.

1.1.1 Been on the roll of an affiliated institution for one full academic session (period of study) in the course for which he/she wants to take the examination.

1.1.2 Submitted his/her application to the Controller of Examination through the head of the institution last attended or any other authority nominated by the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology for this purpose.

1.1.3. Produced the certificate signed by the forwarding authority of having attended not less than 75% of the aggregate of all lectures, practical and tutorial classes held during the session (effective teaching hours/contact hours). Attendance in lectures, practical and tutorials shall be counted from the date of commencement of session as per Council’s

1.1.4. Having returned all library books & procure NOC from all departments.

Note: A student is expected to attend 100% classes i.e theory, practical & Tutorial. The above relaxation is provided for absence due to unforeseen reason.

(i) Every period of lecture, tutorial, project and workshop work as applicable shall be counted as one unit for the purpose of counting of attendance e.g. if a class covers four periods at a time, four units of attendance will be counted.

(ii) Each candidate should have carried out laboratory, practical assignment, project work etc. prescribed in the course taken by him/ her to the satisfaction of the head of the institution and certified by the Head of that Institution as fit for appearing at the examination as regard progress, conduct and character provided that such candidate have not been.

(iii) A student engaged in the extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, with the permission of the principal (Food Exhibition, Chef Competition, Education tour, etc) shall be treated as present for the purpose of counting attendance in accordance with the timetable, for which record will be maintained by the institute.

(iv) When on account of bonafide illness, (supported by a Medical Certificate from a Registered Medical practitioner produced by the candidate at the time of illness or immediately thereafter) or for any other reason deemed sufficient by the Head of the institution (e,g. death in family), the total attendance of a candidate falls short up to a maximum of 10 percent of the total working days, the head of the institution shall be competent to condone such deficiency in attendance and permit such a candidate to appear for the examination , if otherwise eligible.

Note: Industrial Training shall not form part of above and will be treated separately.

1.1.4 A Candidate who is disallowed from appearing for an examination for not fulfilling the condition at 1.1.3 above shall be required to fulfill all the conditions afresh, before being entifled to appear for the examination.

1.1.5 Those candidate who, because of being ineligible to appear in any of the National Council Examination, are detained in the same semester/ term whether on account of shortage in attendance or for any other reason will be required to repeat that semester/ term as a regular student in the following year and may, if otherwise eligible and if so permitted, appear in the next semester/ term examination.

1.2 A candidate, who fulfills the conditions at para 4.1 above but does not appear for the examination, may at his/her option appear for the subsequent examination as an external student. In such cases the internal assessment put in shall be preserved by the Head of the Institution and presented at the subsequent examination.

1.3 Students who wish to continue their studies, after having been out the of the institute for not more than two years due to any reason, except those who for adopting unfair means or found guilty for gross indiscipline etc. and having been debarred by the competent authority from appearing in the examination conducted by the National Council, could do so within one week from the commencement of the session. The period of absence shall be counted from session to session and not from the date candidate leaves the institution. Attendance for such candidates shall be counted from the date of commencement of session.

3.1 The examination fee paid by such candidates who are not permitted to appear in the examination shall be refunded on receipt of an application by the Controller of Examinations in writing t that effect from the candidate concerned wi th in 3 months of the commencement of the Examination. No application will be entertained if received after the date mentioned above.

4.0 CONDUCT OF EXAMINATION

8.0 ACTS OF MISCONDUCT & USE OF UNFAIR MEANS

4.1 The controller of examination shall decide and notify the centre where examinations are to be held. For each such centre, the Controller will appoint the Superintendent of Examination.

4.2 The superintendent of Examination shall appoint all other supervisory and ancillary staff required as approved by the controller of examinations.

4.3 No candidate shall normally be permitted to enter the examination hall after the commencement of the examination. The superintendent of Examination Centre may, however, at his/her discretion, permit a candidate to enter the hall up to half an hour after commencement of the examination. However, no extra time will be allowed for such late admissions.

4.4 No candidate shall be permitted to leave the examination hall before the lapse of one hour after commencement of examination. The superintendent of Examination may in exceptional cases permit an examine to leave examination hall even before this period if in his/her judgement, continued presence of the examine in the hall is not desirable in the interest of smooth conduct of examination or if a candidate becomes physically incapable of continuing the examination due to sudden illness.

4.5 Bonafide ‘dyslexic’ candidates shall be provided 25% extra time for theory examination.

4.6 Every candidate shall be allotted an Examination Roll Number and an Identity / Admit card issued by the Council with an attested photograph, which must be produced at every examination.

8.1 The superintendent of Examination shall report to the controller of Examinations without delay and on the day of occurrence of each case where use of unfair means in Examination is suspected or detected with full details of

evidence of actually what is noticed from the concerned person either the invigilators, examiners in practical examination or from any other source together with an explanation in writing from the candidate concerned. The report should indicate how, when (Date and Time) and by whom (Official on duty) the unfair means case was detected and what was actually noticed.

A. Candidate who is found in possession of any note-book (s) or notes or chits or any other unauthorised material concerning the subject pertaining to the examination paper.

B. Anything written on any part of clothing, body, desk, table or any instrument such as setsquare, protractor, blotting paper and question paper etc.

C. Possession of electronic gadgets such as Mobile phone, I Pad, Tablet, Ear Phone, Head phone, Smart watch etc.

D. Talking to another candidate in the exmination hall or change of seat without the permission of Examination Superintendent.

E. Consulting notes, books or any other material or outside person while going to toilet etc. outside the Examination Hall.

F. Running away or swallowing or destroying and note or paper or material found with him/her.

G. Impersonation.

H. If the answer-books show that a candidate has received or given help to any other candidate through copying.

I. Using obsence or offensive language in the answer book.

J. Deliberately disclosing one’s identity or making any distinctive mark in the answer book for that purpose.
