A publication of First Christian Church of Edmond, OK

Join the Education ConversationBy Rev. Chris Shorow, Senior Minister Martin Luther
King Jr. ServiceMonday, January 21
6PM
Edmond Trinity ChristianChurch, 1400 Northwest178th Street
Rev. George Young of HolyTemple Baptist Church will
be the guest preacher.
On Sunday,January 27, allof our church
is invited to anAdult Educa-
tion lunch inour FellowshipHall beginning
at 12:15. It will be a great opportunity forus to discuss some of the best elements ofadult Christian education in our church. At the heart of our adult education is our
Sunday school program, taught by manywonderful teachers dedicated to educat-ing their classes and to providing a won-derful place of fellowship, pastoral careand community building. The SS classes
are great ways for people to plug in tosmall groups and to get to know others inour church family.
One of the challenges we have as a
church family is that we need more teach-ers. Our church is growing and we needto start more Sunday school classes, and,for that matter, we need to start moresmall group Bible study and discussiongroups that do not meet on Sundays. Sowe need more dedicated volunteers tolead these groups.
Most people, when asked to teachone of these groups, respond by saying,Who me? Teach? Im not qualified!I know it can be challenging and evenintimidating to lead a class, but the truthis, all is takes is dedication, a little extratime and care for the people in yourgroup. The Adult Ed committee has manyresources to help new teachers and cur-
rent teachers provide excellent studiesfor the classes. And you dont have tobe an expert to teach! Leading a discus-sion, watching a video, inviting speakers
into the classthere are many ways toenhance the education experience. If youare interested at all, please come and be
a part of this exciting experience. In meeting with our consultant in
the visioning process, Dick Hamm, wehave reviewed all of the feedback fromour prayer triads. And one of the themesthat was communicated very clearly frommany of the groups was the need formore small groups, Sunday school classesand new adult education opportunities.
Since the need is so great, we also needvolunteers to step forward to help makethis happen. The Adult Ed committeeis committed to bringing more learningopportunities to our church. So come
on Jan 27 and bring ideas, curiosity andmost importantlyyour self, to the lunch.
And as you know, 2013 has startedwith a whirlwind of change. Soon we will
be saying good-bye to two of our longest-term staff members, Greg Bunton andShelley Regan. I know God has calledthem to wonderful ministries outside ofFirst Christian Edmond, but it is difficultto let them go. Im pleased with ourpersonnel committee, our church boardand our leadership and how they have
responded to these changes. They knowthat while God is calling Greg and Shel-ley out, God will also be welcoming newfaces into our midst. In the meantime,we need all of our members to step upand help to meet the challenges of ourchurchs ministry, while we prepare forthe transition. Our lunch on the 27th willbe an excellent place to start. (To reserve
a spot, please call Iris Jordan at 341-3544or email her at [email protected])
Hope to see you there!

On Sunday evening Steve Hanson launched our week talking about Psalm 121 I liftmy eyes to the mountains What a great way to start.
We skied Grandy and Winter Park Mountains, went snowmobiling, tubing, sledding, rock climbing (indoors!), ice skating, roller skating, swimming, and cross country skied. Somepeople went to the craft barn or read a
book. Some even had a massage by our own Tarah Sparks. The best part about the trip? Enjoying each others company. At night
we played games, laughed and got to know each other better.Frank Gresh closed the week talking about his favorite word for the
week, Wow. Wow to the mountains that God created for us to enjoy, wow to all the activities we enjoyed and wow to the great fellowship weshared throughout the week.
