Lecturer in Games Design & Multi-media

We are looking for a committed professional to teach Games Design & Multi-media within the
Faculty of Applied Science & Technology. The successful candidate will be able to assist in the
selection, induction, teaching and assessment of students and act as a course team leader/subject
leader and personal tutor as required. A relevant degree is essential for this role and a teaching
qualification is desirable, although training will be given. It is possible that some of the teaching
hours will be on Higher Education courses.

This post has the potential for development within an expanding team in the Faculty of Enterprise
and Service Studies. These courses include our foundation, intermediate and advanced level
programmes, also some NVQ provision. Your experience in the catering industry will be invaluable
in ensuring a stimulating student experience. As you will be involved in leading courses, we would
prefer you to have Assessor and Verifier Qualifications and ideally teaching experience, but this is
not essential as you will be offered professional training.

The post holder will promote and co-ordinate the activities of the Maitland House Learning Centres. The
successful applicant will be responsible for supervising the Centres on a day-to-day basis to ensure a high
quality, supportive, learning environment. The post will also include up to 8 hours of teaching within the
Faculty of Enterprise and Service Industries, as required.

experience of working with level 3 students is desirable. You will be a talented practitioner who will work with a strong team of like-

Having previously used another Media company I was skeptical about changing over to Chalk Media as I was concerned about the impact it would have on our current marketing.

The TYA is a group of 12-19 year olds who meet once a month to discuss young people’s needs and make suggestions on how services and facilities for young people can be improved. 4.18 Meanwhile, EEDA is exploring with both GO East and EP ways to improve efficiency in delivering the Sustainable Communities Plan including the use of common appraisal processes and streamlined documentation. As part of this, the Green Book appraisals for any NGP funded projects will be handled centrally by EEDA-commissioned consultants to a common format agreed with GO East.
4.19 EEDA and CABE have a jointly funded Design Manager who will ensure that projects receive the appropriate CABE input. We should also point out that the sub-region has a long history of design excellence particularly through the use of the Essex and Suffolk Design Guides.
4.20 HGP puts a high priority on delivering affordable housing. HGP will work with partners to deliver the objectives identified by the Regional Housing Strategy, the HGP housing group and individual housing needs studies. Given the Government’s Efficiency Agenda and the Housing Corporation’s drive for economies in procurement, we
understand the importance of developing relationships with the Corporation’s chosen strategic partners.
4.21 HGP will also continue its work as a SREP and lead on the economic strategy for the sub-region with particular emphasis on:• Job creation• Education and training• Tourism• Promotion and marketing
4.22 HGP will undertake a lead role in the sub-region for these activities in the following sectors:• Maritime and logistics• Construction and trade skills• Tourism• Transport and Infrastructure• Wider community investment projects
like EEDA’s Investing in Communities programme
4.23 In addition, HGP will work to ensure delivery by• Gaining buy-in of all major public sector
organizations plus private and voluntary sectors in the sub-region.
• Acting as a policy developer and sounding board on regional initiatives and identifying sub-regional priorities in terms of the RES.
• Working with, and developing the capacity of, LSPs and LDVs in their area.
• Providing input into research, regional observatory, data gathering etc.
4.24 HGP will work closely with East of England International (EEI), the DTI-sponsored international business support agency for the region, in attracting inward investment to the region and in providing international support for local businesses. EEI has particular strengths in a number of sectors relevant to Haven Gateway, notably logistics and communications. Given Haven Gateway’s international transport connections, this is a key relationship in securing economic growth
4.25 Other stakeholders will be engaged either on a project-by-project basis - as they are at present – or at local authority level. This is particularly relevant for the LSPs of which there are (potentially) eight to engage.
4.9 HGP has a planning group made up of planning officers from the local authority partners. This group is responsible for commissioning sub-regional studies, preparing the non-statutory sub-regional framework and ensuring that local development documents are consistent with the overall vision for Haven Gateway. These arrangements have been in place for some time and we have confidence that they are effective.
4.10 The draft sub-regional framework and supporting documents, which they have prepared and commissioned, have been shared with GO East and ODPM.
4.11 In Colchester, the Borough Council and Essex CC have set up the Colchester Renaissance Partnership Board, charged with delivering the regeneration programme for the Borough as a whole and focused on four major projects in the town. Essex has funded a full time project manager for the first project, based at a new joint office. EEDA and GO-East are also involved as
non-voting members of the partnership. The four main projects are:• East Colchester • St Botolph’s• North Colchester• The Garrison
4.12 In Ipswich, Ipswich Borough Council and EEDA have issued the “Ipswich Prospectus” an overarching strategy for growth which identifies four regeneration quarters:• Education Quarter• Waterfront Quarter• Town Centre• Ipswich Village
4.13 Ipswich Borough Council and EEDA will jointly employ a consultant team to be responsible for delivery.
4.14 It is envisaged that more formal partnership arrangements will be established for Ipswich, involving Suffolk County Council and the surrounding districts, in line with the functional urban area identified through the RCE initiative.
4.15 Mid-Suffolk District Council has been invited to become a member of HGP, although it has only five wards around Ipswich included in the designated Haven Gateway area. If Mid-Suffolk decides not to take up formal membership, HGP will liaise with it on issues affecting the Ipswich Housing Area, in particular the “SnOasis” development – the proposed largest indoor winter sports centre in Europe.
4.16 RCE is developing a proposal to set up joint staff sharing and learning initiatives across the network of regional cities including the establishment of a high-level delivery team. Both Colchester and Ipswich, and therefore the HGP can be expected to benefit from this initiative.
4.17 English Partnerships is currently involved in Haven Gateway through the North Colchester project. In 2005, EP decided not to become involved in new areas of activity outside the Growth Areas and the northern Housing Market Renewal areas. We understand that EP has yet to consider whether this will apply to NGPs or not.

PurposeThe sub-region has never been planned and developed in a co-ordinated fashion in the past and has only recently been formally recognised as a sub-region in the (draft) East of England Plan. This plan sets a challenging agenda for the Gateway up to 2021 and beyond. The purpose of this framework is to provide a planned programme for delivery at a sub regional scale. Whilst it is a non statutory document, it will provide sub regional partners with an agreed strategy and assessment of capacity, phasing and the interventions required to ensure delivery and implementation of sub regional objectives.
The Partnership will consider whether the non statutory document is fit for purpose or whether a statutory framework will be required in due course.
The sub regional strategy is focussed on key delivery themes and does not seek to duplicate other topics covered in national, regional or local guidance. It will be a collective framework providing the basis for the delivery which will inform districts in preparing their local development documents and community plans, the partnership and associated organisations.
Accordingly the strategy will:• provide strategic guidance on the scale,
location and timing of development and associated employment, transport and other infrastructure to 2021 and the necessary delivery mechanisms;
• provide necessary strategic guidance for Local Planning Authorities in preparing Local Development Documents (LDDs) which, together, will provide a clear planning framework for implementing the proposals of the Regional Plan; and
• inform the preparation or reviews of Community Strategies, economic strategies, and housing strategies and other operation plans and policies of bodies responsible for undertaking investment in the public, private and voluntary sectors, including the delivery bodies.
ContentThe sub regional strategy comprises an overarching vision and strategy and key spatial diagram for the whole of the sub area (Part A) and a set of separate statements providing specific guidance (Part B).

VisionThere is already a strong collective vision for the Gateway: …to deliver a high quality environment for its residents, workers and visitors, by capitalising on its location as a key gateway, realising its potential for significant sustainable growth, addressing its need for economic regeneration, creating an additional focus for growth of hi-tech, knowledge based employment and protecting and enhancing its high quality attractive historical, cultural and natural assets.

StrategyThe Gateway will achieve coherence through better communication and a strong collective purpose. It will be much more than the sum of its parts:• the cumulative scale of growth across
the sub-region will make investment more attractive. The size and diversity of employment will increase opportunities to work within the Gateway for all its residents reducing the current level of net out commuting.
• the promotion of the Gateway as an entity will mean that every successive high quality new development and piece of additional infrastructure will raise the profile of the sub-region as a whole.
• the ‘new geography’ of the Gateway will being a stronger sense of place.
• Collaboration of objectives will enable the compatible and complementary development across the sub-region.

• to provide for a commensurate level of economic growth and developing skills in the workforce, particularly in the high tech, academic knowledge based and maritime and logistics sectors;
• to locate development in the main urban areas to support urban renaissance, regeneration of deprived areas, optimising PDL and sustainable patterns of travel;
• to meet existing infrastructure needs and provide for new development by investing in new and improved infrastructure;
• to ensure that development contributes to an improved environment by requiring high standards of design, protecting and enhancing environmental assets and providing green space and related infrastructure;
• to create sustainable communities by ensuring that economic, environmental, social and cultural infrastructure needs are met in step with growth.

The connections between the six themes
• The Sustainable Community Strategy looks ahead to what the District could look like in 2016 through the actions of the key organisations represented on the Local Strategic Partnership working together.
• Community planning involves a joined-up approach to the so-called “wicked issues” across the district such as crime, health, the environment and deprivation which no one organisation can solve on its own.
• The Tendring Local Strategic Partnership was formed in 1998 and has recently reviewed its organisation and ways of working to ensure that it is fit for purpose. It is the partnership of partnerships in the eyes of the government.
• The Sustainable Community Strategy is based on a number of key inputs including: – The views of the public;
– Evidence about the key characteristics of the District;
– Government policies and guidance the against which the key organisations have to deliver either individually or working together;
– The shape of things to come – external influences most notably climate change which will influence and shape the future policy agenda;
– Ensuring that the partners have a shared understanding of the dynamics of change locally and the direction of travel we want to follow; and
– Focusing on key issues and outcomes – taking actions which will make a real difference to the quality of life of local residents.
• In the future there will be a greater need for community leadership reflecting the different needs of individuals and communities. A “one size fits all” approach will not be appropriate.
• Some of the key interventions will need to recognise that prevention is better than cure and changing attitudes and personal behaviour requires new ways of engaging with the public and actions at an early stage for those at risk of crime, family breakdown or substance abuse.
• The vision has taken into account the opportunities to bring about change in different settings with different audiences and new ways of working together with new sources of finance.
• Part 4 of the document sets out a descriptive vision of what Tendring could be like in 2016. The steps necessary and appropriate milestones to achieve the Partnership’s aspirations have been identified in the proposals.
• There are five Ps to delivery:-
– The six partnership strategic themes set out below which have a geographical dimension in terms of;
– The places where they will be delivered – the communities across the district;

The six strategic themes and objectives are:-
Health – the population of the district is able to live longer, healthier lives less limited by long-term illness.
Economic Development – Tendring has a stronger and more dynamic local economy together with a skilled workforce.
Children and Young People – have an equal opportunity for a good start in life.
Crime and Disorder – keeping the district one of the safest parts of the country.
Deprivation – narrowing the gap between the most disadvantaged areas and elsewhere.
Environment – the attractive environment of the district is safeguarded for future generations.
• The actions taken under each theme are mutually reinforcing as the diagram opposite shows.
• For each theme a lead co-ordinating organisation will be identified to develop a three year Action and Delivery Plan with annual delivery plans which will be regularly monitored by the Executive Board of the Local Strategic Partnership and the results reported annually at a Stakeholders and Community Conference.

(4) WELL DESIGNED AND BUILT – featuring a quality built and natural environmentSustainable communities offer:-• A sense of place (e.g. a place with a
positive ‘feeling’ for people and local distinctiveness);
• User-friendly public and green spaces with facilities for everyone including children and older people;
• Sufficient range, diversity, affordability and accessibility of housing within a balanced housing market;
• Appropriate size, scale, density, design and layout, including mixed-use development, that complement the distinctive local character of the community;
• High-quality, mixed-use, durable, flexible and adaptable buildings, using materials which minimise negative environmental impacts;
• Buildings and public spaces which promote health and are designed to reduce crime and make people feel safe; and
• Accessibility of jobs, key services and facilities by public transport, walking and cycling.

transport, that help people travel within and between communities and reduce dependence on cars;
• Facilities to encourage safe local walking and cycling;
• An appropriate level of local parking facilities in line with local plans to manage road traffic demand;
• Widely available and effective telecommunications and Internet access; and
• Good access to regional, national and international communications networks.
(6) THRIVING – with a flourishing and diverse local economySustainable communities feature:-• A wide range of jobs and training
opportunities;• Sufficient suitable land and buildings
to support economic prosperity and change;
• Dynamic job and business creation, with benefits for the local community;
• A strong business community with links into the wider economy; and
• Economically viable and attractive town centres.
(7) WELL SERVED – with public, private, community and voluntary services that are appropriate to people’s needs and accessible to all Sustainable communities have:-• Well-performing local schools, further
and higher education institutions, and other opportunities for life-long learning;
• High-quality local health care and social services, integrated where possible with other services;
• High-quality services for families and children (including early years child care);
• A good range of affordable public, community, voluntary and private services (e.g. retail, fresh food, commercial, utilities, information and advice) which are accessible to the whole community; and
• Service providers who think and act long term and beyond their own immediate geographical and interest boundaries, and who involve users and local residents in shaping their policy and practice.

DefinitionSustainable communities are places where people want to live and work, now and in the future. They meet the diverse needs of existing and future residents, are sensitive to their environment, and contribute to a high quality of life. They are safe and inclusive, well planned, built and run, and offer equality of opportunity and good services for all.

Sustainable communities embody the principles of sustainable development.
They:-• Balance and integrate the social,
economic and environmental components of their community;
• Meet the needs of existing and future generations; and
• Respect the needs of other communities in the wider region or internationally also to make their communities sustainable.
Sustainable communities are diverse, reflecting their local circumstances. There is no standard template to fit them all. But they should be:
(1) ACTIVE, INCLUSIVE AND SAFE – Fair, tolerant and cohesive with a strong local culture and other shared community activitiesSustainable communities offer:-• A sense of community identity and

• A strong, inclusive, community and voluntary sector; and
