Smith, Smith, Montgomery, & Chamberlain, LLC

as August’s Logan County Chamber

Business & Entrepreneur of the Month.

Eighty-five years ago, the Honorable John C. Hover and J. Ewing Smith joined together to create the law practice of Hover & Smith. In 1966, J. Ewing Smith’s son, J. MacAlpine (Mac) started at the firm, and in 1971, William R. Montgomery joined the team. The firm then became known as Smith, Smith, and Montgomery. In 1992, Douglas M. Smith became the third generation of the Smith family to practice law at the firm. Matt Chamberlain became a partner in 2006, when the firm became Smith, Smith, Montgomery, and Chamberlain, LLC.

Recently, the Ohio State Bar Association honored and recognized Mac Smith for serving 50 years as a practicing attorney in the state of Ohio. This honor highlights the sense of history and tradition that the firm is very proud of. Mac and his son Doug represent second and third generations of attorneys who have practiced law in the Logan County community. In addition, Matt Chamberlain is a second-generation Logan County attorney.

. BENEFIT: Members gain CREDIBILITY by being a part of an organization that has served the community for over 70 years.

From the very beginning, Smith, Smith, Montgomery, & Chamberlain, LLC has been a full-service firm, offering clients a broad range of services, but with a “small-town” feel. Throughout the years, the practice has had a core of attorneys who were born and raised in Logan County, and who chose to stay in the community they love in order to serve their friends, family, and neighbors. Currently, the firm concentrates its practice in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust establishment and administration, real estate, civil trial practice, personal injury, as well as business and transactional law. Their clients include individuals, families, and several Lo-gan County area companies, both in the for profit and non-profit sectors. In addition to Logan County, the firm assists clients in Champaign, Hardin, Union, and many other Ohio counties.

The firm believes the most powerful marketing tool for their business is their reputation. From simple legal issues to complex litigation, they care about providing professional and worthwhile

services to their clients and community. They are staunch advocates for their clients, and strive to represent them with integrity, as well as provide them with prompt, effective, and personal service.

The firm has enjoyed a long partnership with the Logan County Chamber of Commerce and its’ member businesses. Members of the firm have served as president or members of the Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors. They are firm believers in the philosophy that a “rising tide lifts all ships,” and that by working with the Chamber of Commerce on building stronger businesses, community services, and improving local education infrastructure, the entire community grows to attract new residents, employees, and new businesses. This growth is positive news for the entire Logan County community, which the firm has proudly served for over three quarters of a century.

We thank the team at Smith, Smith, Montgomery, & Chamberlain, LLC for their membership to the Chamber since its inception and their years of service and commitment to the residents of Logan County and the Chamber!

GROUNDBREAKING Ceremony at NK Parts

Thursday, July 20th, NK Parts and a handful of local officials gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of a 137,500 square foot expansion of its facility located at 13434 S. R. 287 near East Liberty. NKP opened its first facility in Sidney in 1987 and in 2006, opened its East Liberty campus. This expansion project will produce 31 full-time permanent jobs and 9 full-time temporary jobs and will cost NKP between $4 -$6 million.

This project is one of three multi-million dollar projects that will take place along the U.S. Route 33 corridor.

The Adecco Group Signs Memorandum of Understanding With Ohio Department of Education

On July 25th, The Adecco Group, the leading workforce provider, announced a new initiative with the Ohio Department of Education. They plan to partner with the Ohio Department of Education to devise on-the-job training programs aimed at strengthening the labor market in Ohio. This agreement follows on the heels of a pledge they made back in October of 2016 to facilitate 10,000 work-based opportunities in the form of apprenticeships by 2020. They see that Ohio businesses are struggling to fill vacant jobs based on the “shallow pool of talent available.” They believe strongly that implementing work-based learning and ap-prenticeships are a viable solution to this workforce gap.
