The Greater Des Moines Partnership wants to help ensure small business owners and entrepreneurs thrive in Central Iowa. Through the implementation of the “Look Local First” campaign, The Partnership encourages Greater Des Moines (DSM) resi-dents to do just that and look local first for their business and consumer needs. Through your Membership with the Partnership, you are represented by this program that can help strengthen our local economy.

There are obvious reasons to look local when you make purchasing decisions. From a purely economic standpoint, shifting just 5 percent of your business' spending to lo-cal vendors could add more than $672 million per year to the local economy, and cause a ripple effect with an economic impact of more than $1 billion for Greater Des Moines (DSM). This ripple effect creates jobs, diversifies our tax base and makes Central Iowa stronger for every company that does business here -- including yours.

Supporting Small Business Saturday is another simple way to Look Local First. It is important to have a variety of options in our region. Our main street businesses add to the unique character of our community and make our neighborhoods vibrant. We hope you will stop by to see them on Saturday, November 25.

We can all make a difference in growing our economy and making Greater Des Moines an even more prosperous community. Pledge to shift just 5% of your current out-of-area purchases into the local economy and The Partnership will feature you on LookLocalDSM.com as a Look Local pledge company. Visit LookLocalDSM.com to sign up today.

You could

Meet your Mentor at

METRO-WIDE MENTORING FOR WOMEN April 12th 7 – 9:30 AM

S25 per member includes continental breakfast $30 per non-member

Unlike men who have networked for more than 6,000 years – on baseball diamonds, football fields and golf courses; in locker rooms and board rooms - women are new at this mentoring business. Today, there’s a huge need for mentors who can help Central Iowa women navigate their path to success more effectively. This morning event, held at (6-7?) different venues across the metro, offers women of all ages an opportunity to meet potential mentors. Thirteen area chambers of commerce have united and invited both women and men, influential in business and the community, to share their vast expertise in fast and fun coaching sessions. All participating chambers of commerce will convene on Thursday, April 12 at the same time. From 7 to 9:30 AM, hundreds, maybe even a thousand women, could meet their mentor. YOU could meet YOUR mentor. Or you could be a catalyst for lifting-up women at a time when our society needs it more than ever. Join in. Visit a chamber website below to find the venue most convenient for you and register online:
