Harris Hill Soaring Named #1 Fall Adventure in the U.S.

If you’ve admired the glider-filled skies over America’s Soaring Capital, but never experienced a glider ride firsthand, you may want to add it to your bucket list! Conde Nast Traveler, a luxury travel magazine with a reach of over 3,200,000, recently named soaring at Harris Hill the #1 pick on its list of The 5 Best Fall Foliage Adventures in the U.S.!

Harris Hill has been attracting glider enthusiasts and adventure seekers since the 1930s. Amelia Earhart declared it to have the “finest soaring in America” during a visit here in 1934, noting that Elmira was known in soaring circles around the world. Today the thrill of taking to the skies in a motorless plane continues to draw thousands of visitors annually.

Disability Awareness Focus of Oct. Campaign

Capabilities proudly participated in National Disability Employment Awareness Month, an annual awareness campaign that takes place each October. The purpose is to educate about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities. This year’s theme was “Inclusion Works.”

Throughout the month, Capabilities engaged in a variety of activities to educate community members on disability employment issues and its commitment to an inclusive work culture. On October 5th, Capabilities held a disability inclusion workshop for area employers and non-profits. Chemung County Executive Thomas Santulli officially proclaimed October as “National Disability Employment Awareness Month in Chemung County” during the event. A recognition ceremony was held to honor the area businesses that continue to help in making Capabilities’ vision a reality in late October.

Capabilities and local business partners have been working hand in hand to create the opportunities that empower people with disabilities to choose, get, and keep the job of their choice for the past 60 years. To learn more about Capabilities, please visit www.capabilities.org.
