him by tripping him over. Since the grass isextremely difficult to uproot, people let it growwithout destroying it but chanakya poured sugarsyrup on the grass. When Chandragupta askedhim why, Chanakya replied that he was makingthe root of the grass sweet which will attract antsand the ants will destroy the grass. And that didhappen. o.WHO ARE THE

SUBJECTS/FOLLOWERS ?Well, they are the persons who arereporting to you or are dependent on you. They wait for your directions, which in itself has a direct implication on their lives. In the

case of a company, it’s the employees. In afamily, they are your children and relatives. The first and foremost duty of a king(leader) is to keep his subjects happy.

The first reason subjects to becomeunhappy is discarding the good andfavouring the wicked. Subjects come to theleader for justice. When they do not find asolution to their problems amongthemselves, they seek the leader’s advice,

HOW TO RESOLVE THE ABOVEPROBLEM AND MAINTAIN GOODLEADER FOLLOWER RELATIONSHIP

LISTEN TO BOTH TOGETHER AND SEPARTELY

It’s very necessary to listen to both sides of thestory. But after they have expressed their viewstogether, do not hurry with the decision. When bothare facing each other, there are a lot of emotionsand personal feelings expressed. Therefore, listento them separately too. Get the facts. You will get

better idea who was right. At times we are not ableto come to any decision, its called“Dharmasankath” . In such conflicting situationstake the help of books (scriptures) and masters

learned in the particular field.

ANNOUNCE THE VERDICT

UNEMOTIONALLY After one has analyzed

the situation, announce

the verdict. Also explainthe ‘reason’ for thesame. Be just. But morethan anything else, be

justified. But he was a much bigger person in

every way, greater in intellect and reason. He wasno mere follower of a King, a humble adviser of anall powerful emperor but also a great leader.
