CARBOHYDRATES• Body’s main source of energy • Fuels Muscles and brain • Two different types of carbs: Simple, Complex • Simple – are sugars and unhealthy • Complex – are vitamins and nutritious • Makes up 60% of diet Sources: Sugar, Starch, Bread
FATS• Transports oxygen throughout body
• Active parts of membranes
• Fats protect you from cancer
• Women should have 23% or less body fat
• Men should have 18% or less body fat
• With out it nothing would function
Sources : Dairy, Meat
PROTEIN• Creates protein molecules • Each molecule has a specific job• Makes up your body structure Helps body…… - Repair muscle - Grow tissue - Defend against infections - Regulate hormone level • Made up of Amino Acids • Most is burned as a calorie Sources : Meats, Eggs, Dairy etc.
FIBER• Helps digestive track • Keeps blood pressure healthy • Keeps blood sugar levels stable • Two groups ( insoluble, soluble ) • Both are healthy • For children you need 15g a day • For adults you need 25g a day

VITAMINS• 13 different types that are essential for humans • Grouped as water-soluble and fat-soluble • A,B,C,D, E and K are examples • Most have a chemical and letter name • Help maintain regular body function • Need to obtain from food sources

MINERALS• Keeps teeth and bones strong • Helps nerve function • Cant make minerals in your own body • Food supply's minerals • Types - Calcium , Iron, Potassium, Selenium, Sodium,

WATER• Only live without water for a week • On average we use 80-100 gallons a day • Effects body’s food and function • Keeps heart healthy • Gives energy • Healthy skin • Decreases cancer risk
