The last year of a child’s primary education is a critical year in their development. In these nine months, they face pressure to perform academically, pressure to fit in with their peers as well as to understand themselves as they step into their teenage years.
The Grade 7 Coffee Mornings were held on January 22nd and 23rd 2019 with its main objective to offer guidance and commitment as a school towards the child’s education. These were also an opportunity to discuss the role of the parents in this crucial time, and to encourage them to be present, aware and supportive of their child’s efforts towards their education.
The sessions were opened up with a warm welcome from our Grade 7 coordinator, Mr. Amani Msigalla. We then had a brief talk by our CEO of Al Muntazir Schools, Mr. Mahmood Ladak, who highlighted what the Grade 7 year looks like and the expectations of the school. Mrs. Hedwiga Peter shared key information on all the examinations they will be sitting for, as well as briefed the parents on the National Examinations.
Thereafter, we were privileged to have a few members of the SPA Body share their words of wisdom and advice as current Grade 7 parents. These included Ms. Shakila Hameer, Mr. Yeslam Abdulaziz and Mr. Borkhataria. Each one had a variety tips to share, including the importance of self-discipline and hard work. Parents also felt reassured that they were not alone in their apprehensions and anxieties.
Thereafter, our school counselor, Mrs. Sakina Dharsee, discussed the importance of good study habits and encouraged parents to sit down with their children and work on creating a study plan together for the student to follow. This activity was assisted by providing a study plan template to each of the students last week.
The meeting was then concluded by our school principal, Mrs. Shaimuna Chandoo, who reminded the boys that they are all capable and have a lot of potential. She encouraged them to keep working hard and to aim higher to achieve their final goals.
Overall, parents left reassured that the school is doing its part in ensuring these children succeed. We thank all of our parents for attending and look forward to their continued support.
