Chapel End Infant School & Early Years Centre Newsletter Spring Term | 15th February - Issue 21 Dear Parents / Carers, Crocodiles class treated us to a terrific assembly about their topic Land Ahoy! They shared so many fascinating facts about the Cutty Sark, incredible treasure maps and de- tailed pirate drawings. The costumes were amazing for Pirate dress up day and seeing the children so enthusiastic about their learning was a wonderful way to end the half term. Volunteering We would love parents/carers to get involved and help in school with projects, such as the development of the Wild Wood, art projects, volunteer reading, displays, etc. We will support you. If you have free time, we would be grateful for your help. Also, if you have any specific skills that you can share with us, please let the office know and we will get in touch. In year 2 the children have been writing their own pirate adventure stories. They had to think about all the different parts to a story, such as the beginning, build up, problem, resolution and the ending. The children were excited after learning that Cap- tain Long Beard had buried some treasure in our courtyard and left us a treasure map to follow. We followed the clues to help us locate the treasure. To end our topic we celebrated by dressing up as pi- rates! Children made a massive effort and all their costumes were incredible! Early Years Centre Newsletter Spring Term | 15th February - Issue 21

Dear Parents / Carers,

Crocodiles class treated us to a terrific assembly about their topic Land Ahoy! They

shared so many fascinating facts about the Cutty Sark, incredible treasure maps and de-

tailed pirate drawings. The costumes were amazing for Pirate dress up day and seeing the

children so enthusiastic about their learning was a wonderful way to end the half term.

Volunteering

We would love parents/carers to get involved and help in school with projects, such as the development

of the Wild Wood, art projects, volunteer reading, displays, etc. We will support you. If you have free

time, we would be grateful for your help. Also, if you have any specific skills that you can share with us,

please let the office know and we will get in touch.

In year 2 the children have been writing their own pirate adventure stories. They had to think about all the different parts to a story, such as the beginning, build up, problem, resolution and the ending.

The children were excited after learning that Cap-tain Long Beard had buried some treasure in our courtyard and left us a treasure map to follow. We followed the clues to help us locate the treasure. To end our topic we celebrated by dressing up as pi-rates! Children made a massive effort and all their costumes were incredible!

Thames Water Road Closure

Tri Golf This week 10 children from Year 1 and 2 attended the Waltham Forest Tri-Golf competition. Tri-Golf is an indoor version of golf where you drive, putt and chip as you do in outdoor golf but there are no holes to aim for. All the children had great fun and received a certificate that was presented to them by Ms Chaplin in assembly. 22 schools and 215 children took part in this event and unfortunately, on this occasion, we were not in a medal winning position. However, our children represented our school in an enthusiastic and sporting way. Well done!

Handball This week we have started our in house handball competition where all the children in year 1 and 2 will compete against each other. All the classes have been divided into teams and the first stage of the competition is now com-plete. I am pleased to announce that the winners of the year 1 heat are Reneo, Atikah and Tylar from Zebras Class. They will compete in the final after half term against the winners of the year 2 heat which has yet to be completed. It was fabulous to see the children using the skills they had been practicing in competition. It was even more rewarding to see some of the children playing handball in the play-ground court independently at playtime .

They had clearly enjoyed the competition!

Year 1 learning This week Year 1 have been learning to measure using standard and non standard units. Children have built things taller and found things shorter than other things in their classroom. Some children measured the school hall in non standard units i.e. each other. There was a great deal of talk about how to measure accurately and a great deal of fun measuring!
