BOOK CLUB WOMENS 7 WOMEN | JOAN OF ARC INTRODUCTION 1. Eric Metaxas chose these women because "their accomplishments are not gender-neutral but are rooted in their singularity as women." What does being rooted in their singularity as women mean to you? • Does this impact your original thoughts and views on feminism? CHAPTER 1 1. On page 5, Joan is told she will save France and "she did not doubt." Where do you think her faith came from at such a young age? • How would you react if you were told to save the US? 2. Every time God told Joan it was time to go, she faced resistance from her family, governor, the Bastard, and more. Were there times in your life you felt conviction and resistance from everyone around you? • How did you handle the situation? 3. Joan of Arc represents a symbol of purity. She chose to be celibate, she was supernaturally protected from the men in her army, and deliberately sealed her fate by wearing men's clothing to prevent the guards from raping her. Is there a connection between her purity, being a woman, and how God used her? • What does it look like be pure? • What does it look like to be pure in marriage? • What are your struggles with purity? Don't be afraid to be vulnerable. 4. God revealed to Joan when she was going to be injured and when she was going to be captured. She was even told to take her capture "favorably." Has there been times in your life, God revealed that you would face defeat? • How did you respond? • What was the result of the defeat? 5. God used Joan to save France, why didn't God save Joan? • Would her impact be diminished if she was saved? • How can we, as women of His Presence, desire God will and love Him more than our own lives? • How can we be more like Joan? Application What is striking about Joan's story is that she was used to save a country. She was of no status, all she did was obey. Discuss ways you feel God is calling you to care for our circle of friends, our homes, our nation, communities, and work place. • This year is an election, commit to becoming informed and vote. • Pray for one other.
