• The Indians have 2 options for survival:– Accept the white man is moving in and try to live

with him

Gen. Anthony Wayne leads 3,000 troops to remove Indians from Ohio. After killing

hundreds of Indians We burn their

villages to the ground.

What does this mean for the Indians? It’s time to leave

the NW Territory

– Congress passes a tax on whiskey made in America• Why?

– Need to make money to pay off national debt!

– So, farmers who sold whiskey rebelled• Tarred and feathered

the tax collector!!

Pres. Washington leads an army of 13,000 men himself to put down the rebellion! Went to Pennsylvania

to arrest or kill any farmer who refused to pay the tax.

What happened? The farmers gave up.

Promised to pay the tax.
