– Congress passes a tax on whiskey made in America• Why?

– Need to make money to pay off national debt!

– So, farmers who sold whiskey rebelled• Tarred and feathered

the tax collector!!

Pres. Washington leads an army of 13,000 men himself to put down the rebellion! Went to Pennsylvania

to arrest or kill any farmer who refused to pay the tax.

What happened? The farmers gave up.
