A) The Land (#7 in world)
• Takes up 75% of South Asia.• 1/3 the size of the United
States.• Mountains run along 3 sides
of the country, and the middle of it.
1) Mountains• Karakoram and the Himalayas
form India’s northern border.
• Satpura range divides India into half.
• These mountains create two different cultures. (North and South)

2) Plains & Plateaus• Ganges Plain has some of the most
fertile soil in the country.• Ganges river begins in Himalayas
and flows to the Bay of Bengal.• Deccan Plateau located in southern
2/3 of India.• Forests, fertile farmland, and rich
deposits of minerals make this plateau valuable.
